I think Rangers would be better off with Patrick Kane than Lafrenière. I don't think they can fit both players under the cap.

Dude if that’s all it takes for Laf 30 other teams would bud that too.

Lol Laffy has no leverage at all

If Kane wanted minimum contact he'd be signed right now.
Laffy could get offer sheet 2-4 millions is only a second round pick in return.

Bad Laf trade for both sides. Rangers would easily decline as he's part of the future. Habs can just offer-sheet him for just one 2nd round pick in compensation to the Rangers if they decide not to match.

Habs can't offer sheet they don't have their own second round pick. Winnipeg has that pick.

Kane is in no rush to sign lol and if he waits until end of November then he can sign 35+ contract with bonuses

Yea and rangers can match any 2nd round pick offer sheet lol. But let’s not pretend offer sheets are super common

    1) Kane is injured to hell and washed, Laffy still has upside. They'd be stupid to choose 1-2 years of Kane over Laf.
    2) Even if they wanted to trade Laf they wouldn't be trading him for this low. He has no leverage with him being an RFA, so they have no reason not to take their time to get a package they like. Since they have all the leverage they can just wait until a team comes knocking with a package that any given 1st round prospect with high upside would get.

It seems like you don't have a grasp about how leverage works in this league. Rangers have all the leverage when it comes to Laf, they have zero reason to trade him for low value and you need to lose the fantasy that you can get him for cheap.

Yes cause the $1M difference would be the game changer in getting Bouchard signed.

I always hate seeing the "you can offer sheet Laf and only pay a 2nd" argument.
    1) Offer sheets are rare for a reason, they're nukes that every team in the league has, GMs are well aware of the consequences of them, especially after Bergevin essentially lost his job over it.
    2) Even if Montreal had their 2nd, it still wouldn't be enough for the offer sheet to work, Rangers can stay under the cap by matching the offer sheet and won't even be in a hurry to trade Goodrow because they can hold a 20-man roster while they look to trade him before the season starts. Worst-case they run the season with a 20 man roster.
    3) Because of point 2, you're looking at giving up your 1st and 3rd in an offersheet. It's in this range where the Rangers are going to struggle to match. That's already significantly more value than just a 2nd.

Bouchard is worth more than 3.5 million. That's the cap space they have.

Apart from the fact that Foegele isn't a cap dump, the cost for 1 year of 1mil in savings isn't equivalent to the difference in ability between Foegele or Evans OR the difference between a 2nd and a 7th. As such, your offer is firmly rejected. As for a solution to the Bouchard matter, both Dobson and K. Miller provide solid comparables for his value on a short-term deal (4mil * 3 & 3.872 * 2) so getting him locked up for 1 year at between 3 & 3.5mil should be entirely reasonable. Then, the team can commit to a long-term deal with him next offseason (or midway through the season). And this can be done without hurting the team now or giving up a 2nd for Jake Evans.

The contract is pretty much done. Why would they downgrade from Foegele to Evans AND spend a 2nd to do it? Crazy.

They can afford nearly $4.2M for Bouchard this year. It'll be a multi-year contract.

Wondering why NYR fans think Laffy is worth lots.. I mean he has yet to break the 40pts seaon after three years with a pretty decent team. THey tried him everywhere and have yet to see him become a no1 pick that was worth it. I think Slafkovsky is pretty much the same type player who'll stay as a good 2nd to third liner.

The only reason a team would pay 2X 2nd rounds pick or better would be if they have a tie in with him where they see him has the 1st overall pick he was supposed to be, and franchise player he has yet to become.. Habs only reason to overpay for him, easy... Gorton.. He picked him, he has ties to him and he's probably the only one who would really pay more than he's worth to bring him in MTL.

I think he probably lost his job in NYR because of that pick..

I mean, MTL may even pay upward to a player and the CAL 1st pick. But I don't see any other team taking that much of a risk for a less than 40pts player after three years in the NHL being 1st overall.
