Devils three-way

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2023
Published: Aug. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NJD wants to upgrade the Goaltending while staying Cap compliant.

Helly might be available and on a 1 year deal, habs can retain for a modest fee.

NJD gets:

Helly (75% retained = AAV of $1,541,666.5)

WPG gets

(25% of Helly's salary for a year)
Alexander Holtz
Colorado's 2024 2nd round pick
NJD 2024 first round pick
Jake Allen (or Casey DeSmith or Vitek Vanecek)

MTL gets

Montreal 2024 2nd round pick
(50% of Helly's salary for a year)

NJD is overpaying right now - but I think removing the first OR Holtz makes it fair.

Helly for $1,541,666.5 is damn good.

Maybe, as mentionned in the description, removing Holtz or the first could make it work - the price is not perfect but the idea could work.

If it's Holtz one for one, sure, but Jets fans largely won't like that.

Not good to spend those assets on a rental. That closes teams windows faster. I'd rather roll with Akira this year and see if last year wad a fluke. The Devils don't need a goalie to win them the cup, just to keep them in games. This offense is setup to be sick.

I find it hilarious that they would receive their own 2024 2nd round pick back after passing from Arizona to LA to WPG then back through a 3 way deal to make it even more convoluted and confusing. Nice.

I don't really see MTL plus value here. They are basically trading Allen for Some salary and a probably equal 2nd rounder since WIN without Hellebyuk will likely tank...

Zero chance Winnipeg adds in Montreal's 2nd or considers taking Allen as an uncompensated cap dump.

What a strange line to draw in the sand. 'Absolutely NOT these pieces that have little to no bearing on their long term future even though this Helly trade chip we absolutely MUST DEAL in a short window with little suitors'

Andy_Dick is right man. The jets have to take what they can get. Being a UFA, the devils can even wait a year and snag him for free then.

I would 100% take this trade that was proposed, because at this rate, I'm thinking we will be getting a return similiar to Patrick Kane in New York. So no choices here.

Holtz is probably a deal-breaker. NJD has no problem moving picks…just not a core roster piece or blue-chip prospect.

It's their own 2nd they are getting back in exchange for COL's 2nd round pick.
