I also doubt you're getting a 2nd for Petry or a 3rd for DeSmith with no retention, if that was the case Montreal wouldn't have been paid to take them at the exact same cap hit since Pittsburgh likely would have moved them elsewhere if they could get a positive return.

You have a boner for tall players with lower end skill compared to those you are trading away. Harris is a beast already and Beck could be a future top pk 3rd line center. You want to trade them for players who at best are that and tall?

Wasn't he just traded with retention to give the pens cap space? Has the market changed so much that now he has value? This is the kind of trade that would get a gm fired. You could have had him basically for free a few weeks ago, but now you feel that he is worth a second?

The market changes if he is coming in at 2.6 to 3M, he's just as good as we signed if not better.

Ship sailed either way. A 4th and gustav lindstrom for petry at 50% is crazy cheap. Genuinely curious if we were involved (since it was suggested that Buffalo and Detroit were interested). I mean, what part of that deal made adams say- "nah, that fourth round pick is just a bridge too far".
