I agree that we have a lot of power with that 8th year, as a completely biased avs fan i think it benefits him signing with us haha. But Weegar signed 8x6.25 so i think his minimum would have to be around 8x6.75 and even then he could get more over 7 years in free agency. i think it'll be closer to 7.5 but there's still hope for around 7!

He might sign something that will end up around 50mill in total value, if he does team friendly deal. realistically it is going to be closer to 55-65 mill in total value. See Lindholm, Dunn, Severson, Mckenzie, Sergachev, sanheim, Orlov contracts for comps

doubt it, floor is probably like 6.5x8, parayko got that at 29 and he’s worse than toews.

Toews is getting way more than that on the open market. Its not even up for debate at this point UNLESS he actively takes less to stay in Colorado. At that point he could sign for 1M for all we know but that wouldn't mean he is a 1M player either.

Not only is he better than the comparables at that price range, he's signing when the cap is about to go up on top of that. He'll make bank, if that's what HE wants to do. Considering this would be his first major pay day contract, I'm betting he will. He already won the cup.

Pietrangelo got $8.8M at the same age. No way Toews takes less than $8M aav

I think 7-8 would be a VERY team-friendly deal if he took that. If we are fortunate enough to lock him up for that term, it's going to be very difficult to keep him, Cale and Byram long-term. I think us pursuing Toews depends highly upon Bo's performance this season.

Love Toews hate the idea of paying significant dollars almost exclusively after he is 30. If Byram does what he should Toews should sign that big extension he has earned elsewhere because the Avs also have extensions for Makar and Rantanen as well as Byram and possibly Georgiev in the not to distant future.

Good take and considering the big payday is all 30+ years I think the Avs will be hard pressed to do it.

I've been very vocal about the Avs only being able to afford one of Toews or Byram and that Byram should be the one they hang on to. Thing is, Byram doesn't even have to reach his ceiling (true #1) to be the better choice to keep long term; he's already very good in all areas of the ice and could easily hold down the #2 spot playing mostly with Cale. But he's a lot younger and still has room to get better. His next deal will probably put him around what Toews next deal will be but they'll get his prime years, not his declining years as they would with Toews. Don't get me wrong; Toews is a great player and it will hurt when he goes but the Avs would come to regret having a 33 y/o Toews while watching a 25 y/o Byram traded away because they can't afford to keep him.
