But actually: I know Askarov is supposed to be legit but I’m not trading a young top 4 defenseman, a 1st, and a decent goalie prospect for someone who doesn’t have NHL experience yet.

It was a rabbit hole I should have avoided. Next line was a cold Beniers in my hand... couldnt make one evern remotely close to being accepted by Seattle.

I am curious what Nash wanted for Askarov at the draft when he was on the trade board.

If askarov were available this wouldn't be in the top 5 offers for him

That is interesting. What would an acceptable Askarov trade be? A legit cost controlled top 4 ld/rd, a 1st and a solid prospect goalie (that Vanderklok would do wonders with) is a lot to trade for a goalie with no nhl games played and has been dangled trade bait.

You’re right because the second Nashville heard it they would accept it so fast no one could even offer anything else.

FWIW Askarov has played an NHL game.

NSH declines. Josi, McDonagh and Lauzon all have term. Stastney is NHL ready. Girard is a fine player, but NSH doesn't really have room to add another left shot defenseman. Girard only makes sense for them if NSH is moving out another defenceman in the trade.

Trading an 11OA pick who's only grown since his draft year for a mystery 1st four years later is a bad deal, and Annunen doesn't make up the difference.

NSH may have been willing to trade Askarov+ for a chance to draft a franchise forward, but there's nothing here remotely tempting for them to move their top prospect for.

I really do think the Avs screw themselves if they re-sign Toews and I love the guy. Even if Landy has to LTIRetire (which would suck), they can't afford the core guys long-term and build a good team around them if Toews is eating up that much cap. This core has at least one Cup left in them but signing Toews through his declining years would make that a lot less likely.

I think they keep it together mostly. The cap will raise enough to keep the core of Mack(12.6), Makar(9,maybe15 next), Rants(12.5), Toews(8), Byram(9) and Landy?(7). 58.6m for 7 guys isnt smart but if the cap is 95m+ in 25-26, that becomes a lot more manageable if they move G or Manson. Maybe Landy just goes full Stoner and sits out until playoffs for a few seasons.

I don't think the cap going up is going to make enough of a difference. They simply cannot sacrifice depth just to keep one player they can afford to lose. If they didn't have Makar or Byram, then yes, you have to get him back. But they do have both so he isn't a "must." The next UFA pool is a good one so they have an opportunity to better balance the roster.

They have to trade Manson; dude is never available and makes way too much. Landy; now that is the question, isn't it? My odds on Toews are 5:1 he walks; that goes to 3:1 if Landy can't come back.

Take some time a look into h.r.r and play with a 25-26 mock draft. Im busy atm but i believe a 50/50 split next season will be 92.5m, the following season will be close to or above 95m. It will definetly come at the expense of Girard and or Manson, but that has to be expect by now.
Edit: The Avs have decent depth options in house and I trust the pro scouting dept to fill in depth guys at a reasonable aav

I'm always a little leery of trying to predict the cap and I don't know if the Bally Sports implosion with affect HRR. They absolutely should move Manson no matter what; homie was amazing in that Cup run but he's always injured and far less integral than Girard. They never should have given him his current deal but now they'll have to shed it which, honestly, shouldn't be too hard given that his actual salary is pretty low the next two seasons. They may not get much back except the cap space but that's okay. I'm not big on trading Girard but, if they can get Toews at a reasonable rate, it could be worth it although I'm very concerned that he is going to decline shortly after his next deal starts. Re-signing him would be an all-in move and mean the window is the next 3-5 years rather than 5-8 years. I guess I'm just not as sold on Toews being a "must sign" as some people are.

I'm less than optimistic they're going to be looking at internal options; they just don't try to get guys to the NHL. I do think, if they put their minds to it and made it a priority, they could get all of JLF, OO, Ritchie and Gulyayev to the NHL over the next four years but they seem like they just don't care enough to do that. Would be cool if they did, though.

If Landy can't come back, they should allot that money to replacing him on the roster, not to Toews; they're going to need a legit top-six wing and it will likely cost every penny of $7M.

I appreciate your point of view, I disagree with some parts, but I am aware that I am overly hopefuly.
