Prime Muzzin is exactly the type of player our team is missing right now. If we can get a prime Muzzin who is actually a RD, this team would be very well set up.

Dubas brought in McCabe to replace Muzzin.

I honestly don't remember Muzzin playing 4 games last year, how did the Leafs cheat the cap for that>?

Nevermind, Muzzin played when Murray was on LTIR.

Pesce would be a very good option for sure BUT he has no hits to his name. So I don't think he brings a physical aspect that the Leafs need or that Muzzin brought. I would be happy with his acquisition though.

McCabe is a nice addition for sure (but I would have kept Sandin as well). But our current D construction is missing a physical element to it. At least one guy but preferably 2. McCabe can't do all the physical side of things on his own.

A team who's generally projected to win their division would be a top contender if they could spend up to 90 mil. This is mind blowing, truly.

Holl.

Schenn not Holl is who I would have kept, but he is still a 3rd liner.

Schenn outpriced himself though. 2 x 2m is the contract I would have given him. Not 3 x 2.75m

If Muzzin was healthy, Tre wouldn't spend money on Klinberg and Dubas would have kept Sandin and not trade for McCabe.

Yeah that's fair enough. Hopefully Benoit fits in with a more talented roster, he's a hitting machine and has pretty solid mobility. Could be a sneaky good add by Tre based off his trajectory.

Yes he could be a good add. But he is a bottom pairing add at best. We need one top 4 upgrade. Preferably a physical guy.

Tanev is my number one realistic target.

Substract Timmins and add a Tanev type and this D starts looking quite a bit better.

I agree that Tanev would be great. I also wonder how Peeke would do in top 4 minutes on a better team. I think it's pretty difficult to evaluate a young defenseman like him who's given shutdown minutes on a bad team.

Also, one controversial add that piques my interest is Risto..he had an incredible year defensively in shutdown minutes for a brutal Flyers team. He's always had a great toolset but has been prone to lapses of judgement. If he removes those from his game like he looked to have done last year I think he could end up being a sneaky good add playing on a team like the Leafs. Definitely boom or bust risk with him though...

Wouldn't hate a guy like Dillon to pair with Klingberg either.

Leafs are in no place to take a risk on a guy like Risto considering how long his contract is. If it was a 1 year deal, then maybe but not with the years he has left.

Dillon could work for sure.

Yeah you're probably right. But then if he hits as a solid pair for Rielly it could also become great value.

Buuttttt..... you're probably right though.

Looking at Pesce stats, he isn't physical. So imo he isn't what the leafs are looking for in a top 4 RD. Leafs need a clear the net, strong PK and throw some hits type guy, a better version of Schenn.

You are making a lot of assumptions that don't really add up. If Muzzin was healthy, Dubas still likely trades away Sandin. Sandin was traded for cap reasons, Muzzin being healthy makes that worse, not better. Giordano was still the better 3rd pairing defenseman on the left side and he still cost half as much. The idea that Tre wouldn't sign a right handed defenseman because the Leafs didn't have 2 left handed dmen doesn't really make sense either. Muzzin being healthy isn't the magic eraser to make exactly what you want to have happened happen even though it makes no sense in the context.

Yeah I think he does those first two things but isn't the biggest hitter. Pros and cons there for sure.

Lol fair for sure, but he really did have an amazing season last year, was in the 94th percentile defensively apparently league wide. I just wonder what playing in a system like ours could do for him considering he's always played on awfui teams. Surrounded by the talent we have and the forward support that has made much less talented players look better than they are and maybe we unlock that potential and get a steal for 5 mil. I mean, I know it's a highlight video but he seems like a guy who has all the tools to be everything we'd want in a RHD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vviz8nsdIhg

The more I think about it the more I'm talking myself into it lol.

Whatever you want to say, doesn't matter, if Muzzin was healthy changes would have came and you silly comment about a $90 million team would be void.

My point still stands.

Try not to be funny.

Your point doesn't stand at all. It's nonsense through and through. If Muzzin had been healthy, this isn't a 90 million dollar team and doesn't look like a top contender because of the mulitude of sacrifices they would have had to have made to make Muzzin's 5,6 mil fit. That's my point you fool and you demonstrated it perfectly with your nonsense.
