Trading Pinto

Created by: skrymir
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2023
Published: Sep. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm basing this off a rumor I read about. Don't shoot me this is apparently the ask from Dorion if Boston wants Pinto (but I do think it's a win for the Bruins).

Even with the trade and burying Joseph and Kelly in the minors, the Sens are right up against the Cap with virtually no wiggle room.

The rumor came from Jimmy Murphy so it’s not a rumor it’s made up BS.

Boston happily accepts though.

This is the equivalent of trading Nico Hischier for Drake Batherson and Joseph Veleno

It's definitely a win for the Bruins. They get the much needed help at C and give up nothing off their roster.

I'm not advocating for the Sens to trade Pinto, but no one is taking Joseph off our hands and the only other trade options are Brännström and Kubalik for opening up the cap space needed to get Pinto signed, and I doubt they trade Kubalik as he's the only roster player they got back in the DeBrincat trade.

It's not an awful return, but it does help Boston more than it helps Ottawa.

Definitely not a good return for Pinto. He's already shown his quality at the NHL level instantly. Neither of the other two have and their ceilings are lower than Pinto.

You’re making your rival better . I’d rather trade Kubalik or Brannstrom for a mid round pick than trade Pinto

Pinto will develop into a Backlund

Xd, not even close. This trade has much more fair value. Still a clear win for Boston though

I’ll always take the 2 way C over the offensive winger. I like Pinto much more and he’s more proven

I realize Lysell wore down during the year and played poorly at the second WJC that happened during last year, but the way he started the year was highly promising for a 19 year old in the AHL and he had the goal of the tournament at the first WJC.

Pinto has displayed a lot with Ottawa, but I would not minimize Lysell’s talent. I wouldn’t do this deal if I were Ottawa and believe the rumor is BS, but Lysell’s upside likely is higher. That isn’t an indictment of Pinto as much as it is an acknowledgement that Lysell has some skill sets that are elite (his speed, edges, and puck control at high speed can create breathtaking plays)

GMPD would trade all 3 before trading away Pinto. Losing Pinto is much worse for our depth than losing any/all of those 3.

Greig played 20games in the NHL before they saw he hit a wall. Are you confident he will be able to play all 82 (plus playoffs, hopefully)? Cause you gotta be confident, since Dorion and DJ's jobs likely depend on playoffs. Not to mention Greig plays a physical game, which makes him prone to injuries.

No one has been traded because they haven't agreed on a contract yet. Why trade someone if you don't know how much room you'll need?

Not to mention, at this point, might as well wait to see if injuries happen to other teams, making them a bit desperate.

I would be beyond shocked if Pinto wasn't on this roster at the start of the season and his contract demands were sub 6M or so

You’ll have to pay to move Joseph for sure.

However i was looking the other day at who had cap space to do something.

What are your thoughts. Kubalik/Joseph/Brannstrom to Preds for Fabbro/Gurianov?

Bran and Fabbro a wash and probably better fits for their new teams. Gurianov is a downgrade from Kubs for sure but that’s price for moving Joseph. He’s cheaper and still some untapped upside there.

Allows Sens to sign Pinto and fill the rest of the slots. Upgrades Preds FW depth.

If I recall correctly, they sent Greig down to the AHL in late Feb. GMPD, I believe, had said they thought his progress had stalled and he needed more time in AHL.

If we're trading Pinto, it needs to be a home run.

This ain't it.

Yeah no thanks on that, wouldn't trade Pinto for Chychrun... preferred to give up the 12th OA pick, so no way Jose

I doubt they trade Kubalik as he's the only roster player they got back in the DeBrincat trade.

Who cares?

Brannstrom is the only roster player from the Mark Stone trade and Joseph the only roster player from the Nick Paul trade

Kubalik turned into an asset now instead of losing him for nothing after the season AND paying something to move Joseph is much much smarter.

There's no way Dorion can save face from all the blunders he made. Whatever he does has to be for the best of the team

It wasn’t , I wasn’t comparing Pinto to Hischier , I was comparing Hischier to Batherson as the same as Pinto to Lysell
