Sabres bidding against themselves to pay Kane that. They should get someone who actually might be good in the playoffs now.

Barron averaged the nearly same amount of points per 82. Habs also have about 4 guys with the same or better upside than Peterka

MTL isnt trading a 1st round RHD (rare) for a 2nd round small winger (common).

Other than the usual Slaf, Dach, Caufield and Suzuki. You have Newhook, Beck, Roy, Farrell, Mesar

Peterka is a 50-60 point player at best and those i named could easily become that or better

Wouldn't call a 6' 200lb Winger Small, and Barron would be a nice get, but gotta clean up the turnovers. Doubt you would get JJ for Barron. But what do you think is fair for Barron.

They were 9 picks apart and the general consensus is the Sabres stole JJP in the second round. They also aren't that much different size wise.

5'11" 192 lbs per Capfriendly
6' 190 lbs per nhl.com

MTL has plenty of those...

Barron isn't on the market. MTL has no Depth on the right side of their defense:

Savard is on the backend of his career and will be traded away
Kovacevic is a soon to be UFA
Reinbacher is 18 y.o. and won't come to America for a couples of years
Mailloux could be anything between a 1st pair guy and an AHLer.

That's it. As of now, Barron is the only RHD able to take 1st pairing minutes and has no replacement if traded away.

If MTL trades a Dman for some foward help, it's gonna be a lefty.

The last 2 winners of that award was Peter Cehlárik and Roman Červenka. Who? Exactly.

How about Ryan Johnson and Kisakov. And you through in Tuch since I see a lot trying to dump him.

...Peterka is a 50-60 point player at best and those i named could easily become that or better
Great conversation.
Obsolutely no ill words, just good facts and counter points.
Let me add a few counter points.
Peterka may have been the 34th OA but his goals and pts rank 8th and 11th from that draft class.
Cehlárik and Červenka may have been the the two previlous winners of best forward, but the five from 2015 to 2-19 were Speeza, Laine, Panarin, Aho and Kucherov, I am sure we ALL know who they are!
Hockey DB and Elite Prospects have him at 6' 189 and 5'11" 192, regardless that is not small just less than average and at 21 he will most likely add a few more pounds over the next couple of years.
Based on his performance in the IIHF World Championship and his AHL record, he could have a huge '23-'24 season much better than 50 pts if he is getting top 6 minutes.

Finally, while adding a RHD would be great, looking at MTL prospect pool Peterka does not fill a need.
So in a vacuum this trade deserves consideration, it just will not happen.

MTL's pipeline is full of LHD and small wingers.

If you are talking about Luke Tuch, he's one of the few physical winger in our pipeline (With Heineman and Florian Xhekaj). The fact he could become a free agent after his university career might motivate MTL to trade away his rights before losing him for nothing... but nobody know about his intentions so far. And maybe a team that already have his brother would be confident enough to resign him and thus willing to offer more.

It matters bc it eliminates some of the natural bias that comes with most of the proposed trades on this site
It’s not just some ridiculous proposal like:
Dvorak, Allen, 1st for Power

This proposed trade seems in the ballpark of reasonable,
from a Habs fan’s perspective

I always find it funny when people think Power will sign a 8yr deal in the $8mm range, while Dahlin is rumored to be signing a 8yr $10.5mm deal.

Why in the world would Power leave $20mm+ on the table, especially with the cap expected to skyrocket? He would be a fool to sign such a contract, and Power is no fool.

I expect Power to follow the Dahlin path. He will sign a short bridge as he develops and then cash in on a 8yr deal, probably surpassing Dahlin's AAV, due to the salary cap's rise.
