That trade with Montreal is the difference between a Billy Beane team and a real playoffs team

Bogosian is not a goon. He aspires to be, but he's far from being a goon.

Nice lineup otherwise.

Even if you remove the 2 firsts, I don't think Ottawa would do this, there's a 5 M$ difference in cap hit

But moot point anyway since the Sens don't need Matthews but need Tkachuk

I wont lie, still dont want to trade Xhekaj
I get its a steal value wise
I'd rather keep Anderson and Xhekaj then deal with overpaying Nylander.
I like the message that Suzuki, Caufield, Dach and Newhook all set.

👆👆👆👆 is a troll... Matthews>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tkachuk that the 2 1sts don't cover the difference...

But moot point anyway since the Leafs need to have superstars who don't whine anytime they aren't having a good day

Brady Tkachuk 23 y/o season : 35 goals, 83 pts
Auston Matthews 25 y/o season : 40 goals, 85 pts

I'm sorry but I'm not paying an additional 5.0 AAV to have Matthews. I prefer the younger, cheaper, unicorn power forward

Sens also have Stutzle, Norris, Giroux, Pinto, Greig and soon Ostapchuk as Center options. They need Wingers, not centers

You forgot to mention Matthews on 1 wrist still put up better totals than Tkachuk... I prefer the top 2 player in the league over a guy who has near PPG totals as John Tavares... And as for unicorn, get over yourself... He does the exact same things as JT but JT is a true leader and doesn't whine to the refs when things get tough

Do you really think I care about you having this opinion? I don't mind, you can cherish it all you want

But I'm pretty sure most hockey fans (outside of Leafs fans) would take Brady Tkachuk everything considered. If contracts were equal, of course you take Matthews but he is not 60% better than Tkachuk

Well, my last post was not really about what I think…

And you’d be surprised how many GMs/coaches would take Brady and the 5 M$ cap space too

"I'm pretty sure most hockey fans" sounds like "I think that most hockey fans"

And the only GM that might do that is Dorion bc of how much of a bad GM he is

For once I can agree, Dorion is not a very good GM

That being said, you'd be shocked how many NHL executives would rather have Brady and 5 M$ of cap space

That part is obvious, you can’t have a worse prospect pool than the Leafs just coming out of a full rebuild

Most, if not all, will take the best player and Matthews is so much better than Tkachuk

I'm probably Dorion's biggest critic

The guy has made so many mistakes, the Sens could have by far the best present and future of the NHL

Just naming a few blunders :

Zibanejad + 2nd for Brassard

1st (which ended 4th OA) + Turris + Bowers for Duchene (who wasn't kept and then traded for 3 pieces that didn't end up in much)

2nd for a declined Derek Stepan (who had a 6.5 AAV lol)

Gustavsson for Talbot

Murray's contract, then having to spend 3rd + 7th to get rid of 75% of his contract

Ceci + 3rd for Brown and Zaitsev (getting Brown was excellent but stupidly traded him for a 2nd when the team is trying to make the playoffs, then had to spend 2nd + 4th to get rid of Zaitsev last 1.33 years of his contract)

Bought out Bobby Ryan just to sign Dadonov who worked even less. Would much rather have had Bobby than Dadonov + Ryan dead money

Del Zotto, Condon, Colin White contracts, etc

The Tyler Boucher and Ben Roger picks in 2021

The DeBrincat situation

There's so many it's actually hard to remember them all without looking

He's very lucky though, started his rebuild with probably the most wealth in NHL history (Karlsson, Duchene, Stone and several others in their prime, plus Chabot, Batherson, etc already in the prospect pool). He also benefitted from having Trent Mann and several scouts hired by Bryan Murray who got him some nice pieces everywhere in the draft. PLUS, that Karlsson trade, lucky that the Sharks fell off a cliff that quickly so the 1st ended in Tim Stutzle. They got their first 2 line Centers from that trade.

You can add in the Niemela trade with the Leafs too but yeah, he was def. lucky to have many chips to trade and get as much value as possible compared to say a MTL or a Chicago

Topi Niemela was more of a good 3rd round pick by the Leafs than a blunder by Ottawa though. In the end, they just gave up a 3rd round pick to move up and grab the player they wanted, which in this case seems like a homerun as Tyler Kleven looks like a beast in the making

But another example of the scouting department that was put in place before he became GM finding him good players

yeah, but it was more bc Hirvonen was the other guy who looks like he could be NHL ready (minus the one hit... But he'll learn)
