Don't need him but, any team ignoring improvements especially when they come so cheap, are flat out dumb. The only teams that should reject an offer this lobsided are ones far over the cap.
It's cap relief but, to look at it only as that is a great way to limit the improvement you hope your team will make.
Also your lines could be
Hall - Bedard - Donato
Reichel - Kurashev - Athanasiou
Jarnkrok - Guttman - Raddysh
Foligno - Johnson - Perry
You wouldn't risk losing any good young players, they either have a clear spot on the team or are waiver exempt
Actually what is dumb is operating without a clearly defined plan, us Hawks fans saw that with the past GM and the team slowly slipped into mediocrity with no sign of improvement for the foreseeable future under his “leadership”.
Davidson has made it very clear since he took over that they were going to rebuild without taking shortcuts, that means building through the draft and developing his own picks. He sold off almost everything of value for draft capital, weaponized cap space for more draft capital. When they won the draft lottery he was quick to act in surrounding Bedard with established, high character veterans on short term deals. He acquired those veterans for free essentially; Perry cost them a 7th. Davidson was thoughtful and calculated, he acted quickly so as to not be backed into a corner where he had to panic and take bad contracts and gambles. He is not going to change course now and trade picks this close to the season to bring in Jarnkrok, he doesn’t have to, he has already acquired his veterans.
Would Jarnkrok improve the Hawks, potentially but there is no guarantees, he’s 32 and definitely at or past his peak level of performance. Anyone he would be replacing would be younger with more potential for improvement.
The roster you posted above has Jarnkrok going in at the expense of Dickinson which isn’t going to happen since Dickinson is arguably the most established centre on the roster. It is more likely that Guttman would be coming out which would be a bad decision given the camp he has had and his late season performance where he had 6 points in 14 games. This works out a 35 point pace over 82 games or 31 points over 73 games, the same number Jarnkrok played last season when he produced 39 points. Jarnkrok is 32 years old, Guttman is 24 with much more room for improvement.
Now I’m not saying the Hawks won’t trade for Jarnkrok but if they do it will be the Leafs sending the picks not Chicago, that’s how Davidson has operated and he not change course now. The Hawks will continue to build for another couple of seasons and then look to subsidize the roster with prime veteran FA signings.
