I doubt that they’ll leave him on the bench for 8 years. After all, a normal human can only last a couple weeks without food, so the Devils would have to take him off the bench sometime for his own safety.

GMs do this all the time. They overpay for a short term rental....Meier last spring. And then to justify the trade they feel they HAVE to extend the player. We'll see, but IMO that 8.8m X 8 year contract isn't going to age well.
