they are projected to be over the cap now? Why? I'm really confused
It's the off-season so cap overages are allowed up to a percentage, but the current calculation doesn't account for Horton and Lupul.
Also, they are probably on the hook for $4M in overages after this season so subtract that from next years cap and they are looking to be in trouble unless they convince matthews, marner, nylander to take shitty contracts as bridge deals. Better hope they don't get offer sheeted
I'm really surprised. When a rebuilding team signs a 37 yr old to a three yr deal the question isn't about how good or bad it is. Leaf fans should be very concerned about this rebuild. Cause they didn't turn the page with this one; they completely rewrote the book.
What a traitor to the Sharks, karma will avenge David Clarkson 2.0... If baby Marleau thought he had it rough dealing with California press he will be in for a real treat now . Going to be a rude awakening when they start in on him not scoring enough or giving up on plays etc. There is a reason he never won in San Jose, he was one of them for sure. Well this keeps up can expect another lockout as players try to get 13-15M cap hits. I saw some basketball player signed like 175M think its 35M cap hit if broken into 5 years or whatever . This was the contract Maple Leafs were supposed to give Dustin Brown before Dean did to ruin LA, since he never stopped working for Flyers. Face it he ran the team like the producers, now this seems to have spread to Toronto, I thought SARS was eliminated. Heard Jumbo Joe got 8M for 1 year, so least this isn't for 24M for 3 .
Here is my only justification for saying "good deal".
Marleau on the left side of Auston 3:16 and Big Willy Style is a pretty damn good first line, assuming Nylander doesn't regress in year two. But it doesn't do the cap situation any favours at all. It's a provisional "good deal", with the potential that it could definitely go sideways.
