Description

After Ethan Bear is cleared to play after his off season shoulder surgery, sign him as a RD replacement for Zaitsev who can be waived and sent to Rockford. Bear would be a better partner for rookie defenseman Wyatt Kaiser, or, if called up later this year, Issac Phillips. By signing Bear for 2 more years beyond this season, he would also serve as a bridge at RD until Rinzel and/or a future RD drafted prospect is ready for the NHL.

I like this idea. Zaitsev would probably be loaned to the KHL team of his choosing instead of being sent to the AHL though.

Not a bad idea, but just spit balling here

Is it possible that Davidson kicks tires in Montréal on a Barron or Kovacevic?

I get the Hawks aren't wanting to move draft capital, but given the depth the Habs have on the right side, I wonder if landing one of the youngsters wouldn't be a possibility. Fits this rebuild a bit better I think.

That's a possibility too. However, what I was thinking is that Bear has around 250 games of NHL experience. I would rather have him alongside a younger LD than the less experienced Barron or Kovacevic. Plus Bear would only cost $$$ versus trading picks/prospects for either of these young Montreal RD.

I personally wouldn't mind it, but I'm not sure I see KD adding to the roster this year, even if it is a free agent. Also, I like Phillips a lot, but I don't like him on the right side at all after seeing it in the preseason.

I guess it really depends on what KD thinks of them and how much they would cost. But I have a hard time seeing KD spending assets to add to this roster. If he had interest in Kovacevic, he would have claimed him. As for Barron, MTL would probably want way too much for him.

Phillips has been playing exclusively on the right side on the top pair in Rockford so far this season. I've only watched one game so far, but he looked OK. Hopefully he gets more comfortable in that role. Allen is playing on the right side as well on 2nd pair.
