I don't know that 10m gets Nylander done. I think it's 11m for him to not to go to free agency.

Why would Boston trade a top tier goalie to one of their rivals without making them pay a kings ransom? Robertson can't crack the Leafs roster and Timmins is a 3rd pairing d-man. Its going to take more than a 1st and some spare parts to get Boston to trade Ullmark to Toronto.

nope, he's stated on the record numerous times he loves it here and wants to stay. Couldn't possibly see him getting more than 10.5m on the open market, but they can only give 7 years. Leafs giving him just 9.25m by 8 years would surpass the total compensation on a 10.5m by 7 year deal. Not to mention the fact that Toronto can and regularly does pay the vast majority of the cash up front on signing bonus which is massive and something that very few teams can/will do.

It would be done if it were that easy. I have no doubt that he loves it in Toronto, but he’s going to be paid more than Marner

I hope you never accept that logic when negotiating a contract at work. You see we're just spreading your pay out for longer, not paying you less.

man if no other team is willing to pay him 11M he's not getting 11M. I'd be shocked if any team would give him that.

if my career was likely to be either over after that contract or at the very least I'd be making nothing close to my current contract, AND this contract would set me up to never have to work another day in my life, AND the company would pay it mostly upfront as the Leafs usually do with their stars and I could capitalize on the time value of money and compounding investment returns on virtually all of that money immediately then yes, adding the extra year and increasing my total comp over the full contract would be most important. Can't compare the average person's situation to this.

actually he would get more money faster, the bonuses the leafs pay is max.

matthews is on a 4 year deal at 13.25 he will get 30.350 mill is the first 2 seasons, the faster they get the money the faster they can invest and make more with it.

also "if it were that easy it'd be done"? Nope, its still gonna take at least 9.25-9.75m range while tre was offering in the 8.5-9 range in the summer apparently. The deal will get done, my guess is 9.5x8. More total comp than any team on the open market will give him over 7 years, and he can stay where he loves playing.

I’m expecting Boston to be a team that bids for him depending on how Zacha / Poitras play and I expect the number to be in excess of 10m AAV
