So the flames get a 1st to send the leafs Zadorov, Tanev, and Markstrom + Retain on two of them and then the league feels so bad for the sharks they let them go over the cap?

The classic and ever historic 6 for 3 double retention trade! See those all the time! Especially mid season!

Pretty simple stuff here:

Someone is going to pay a 1st for Tanev, especially retained.
The Leafs will have to pay to dump Klingberg, he's a 4+ million dollar healthy scratch that was traded for peanuts last season @ 3.5M
Liljegren, good piece, Leafs 1st, fine piece, there will be better out there though.
Holmberg, meh
Markstrom's biggest point in negotiations was a NMC, just had a kid last year, seems like a pretty important piece to the puzzle.

It would take adding a pick to Klingberg to move him, so let's say someone actually accepts a 5th to take on his cap hit. Now it's Liljegren, Holmberg, a low end 1st and a 5th for a good starting goalie and 2 top 4 defencemen? As an non-partisan observer this looks lopsided.

Markstrom has been playing well this year. It's the inverse of last year: Last year he was the issue, this year it is our turnovers and sloppy play costing us. Calgary would be retaining 50% on tanev and zadorov, giving up their starting goaltender to take on Klingberg, for an injured liligren Holmberg and a 1st? It's a joke of a trade. Calgary could get more trading each defenseman without retention individually
