Does it matter what he would be on Toronto? He's been a 3rd pairing defenseman on the Flames and has had trouble whenever hes given more responsibility. That's what you are trading.

If we look at the market so far for a guy like that its good but because hes a rental and mostly a 3rd pair guy in CGY the price not be as high as say a guy like Hanafin, Tanev, Weegar, Andersson, etc.

The Zadorov situation isn't the same as when McCabe was moved at the deadline. Also, McCabe had a 4m AAV with 2 more years remaining when he was dealt.

The problems the Flames face are:

1. Zadorov's an expiring UFA

2. He's openly asked for a trade and wants out of Calgary

Calgary has a ticking clock to move him. If Zadorov's agent is openly saying he's not long for Calgary, that puts his value way down. Teams are obviously going to lowball because they know the Flames are stuck. If you know the car lot is closing, you're not going to go there and buy a car at full price.

Calgary's best chance was to delay until the deadline when they could get top dollar. Based on what Milstein's comments are, it doesn't look like they can do that now.

That's what Habs fans said about Edmundson for 2 seasons. He got a 3rd with 50% retention. There's an obvious outlier in defensemen values when it comes to Chiarot. Trying to use it as a comparable is silly.

each year first are traded for bad players. pretending otherwise is silly. chiarot, foligno, jeannot. all these guys are ''gritty'' like zadorov, GM overpays for size and ''physical'' player. Cant turn a blind eye to it. doesnt mean i agree with it, but it is a trend.

Doesn't matter. Zadorov has openly said he doesn't want to be there, other teams are going to take advantage of that.

The deal I'd compare it to is Petry out of Montreal.

Petry had 42 pts in 55 games the season prior and was a firm #1 in Montreal and was packaged with a then-up-and-coming 22y/o centre in Ryan Poehling for Mike Matheson, who was a #4/#5 defender and 4th round pick.

The equivalent would be Zadorov and Martin Pospisil for someone like Andrew Peeke and a 4th.

Petry was a legitimate #1 defenseman for five years on the Habs, playing 22 mins+, he definitely wasn't a one-dimensional offensive defenseman. Zadorov hasn't played more than 19 mins/ATOI since Chicago. You gotta take the homer glasses off.
