So Edmonton takes on $1.1 million of additional cap, which they don't have room for, in exchange for a far worse defenseman and a backup goalie? The firsts won't become actual NHL players for couple of seasons at least, which is VERY poor compensation for losing a good-quality defenseman (on the cusp of hitting the 200-game mark) now.
Intergalactically HORRIBLE idea for the Oilers. The only circumstance under which this idea might arguably make some sense is if this deal happened at the trade deadline and Edmonton were mathematically out of the playoffs.
