I'm actually someone that understand and likes what Kampf brings as a hockey player. He was never and will never be worth that contract though. He'll be a hard one to trade away reasonably and certainly won't be getting Dickinson even though he's also a minor piece. Hawks simply don't want to use their cap space for a #4C.

Rutta is nowhere near a top pairing D and in no way at all is worth your current top pairing RD in Brodie, a serviceable 7-8D in Lajoie, a 4LW in Gregor, a legit B prospect in Minten, AND a 1st.

And no, Reaves is not that much of a negative asset that he offsets that horrible overpay.

I'd argue his contract isn't that bad at $2.4M for what he brings as a defensive center and PK player. A little rich sure, but hardly the problem in Toronto. That said, agree there is no way the Hawks go for this as Kampf has no part in the future of the Hawks team so he would be viewed as more of a cap dump. A 4th and 5th may cover eating that in terms of the Hawks perspective but they aren't giving up Dickinson as well
