Description
Was just wondering what some fans would think would be the cost for some of these players who were highly touted at some point but still haven’t made an impact in the nhl or might never
Trades
1.
DET
  1. Turcotte, Alex
Additional Details:
Kings are a cup contender and have some prospects that moved up ahead of him I believe like leferriere , ,kaliyev

I believe if he doesn’t make the team next season he goes on waivers? Kings fans think he’s got a legit shot to stick on a cup contending team next season? If not what would the cost be
LAK
2.
DET
  1. Gunler, Noel
Additional Details:
I remember at one point he was highly touted but people said he didn’t give 100% all the time . Noticed he’d be 23 by next season and in Finland now . It’s pretty much next season or bust I’m guessing. I’d assume he’d be included in a deal if they thought it could help Carolina on a cup run?
CAR
3.
DET
  1. Rees, Jamieson
Additional Details:
Gonna be 23 so I’d assume he’s a far fetch to make it? I just remember him playing good for team canada at the world juniors and wondering what canes fans thoughts on him are?
CAR
4.
DET
  1. Tracey, Brayden
Additional Details:
Like rees I remember Tracey playing great with Canada at the world juniors and noticed he’ll turn 23 this season with 1 career nhl game. Anyone have any thoughts on him? Bust at this point or he still has a shot as a bottom line guy?
ANA
5.
DET
  1. Chinakhov, Yegor
Additional Details:
I just threw him in here cause I heard he apparently asked to be traded? Don’t think the gm would just move him cause He asked to be dealt though

I assume LA would want a late 1st otherwise they keep rolling the dice with Turcotte.
Chinakov seems like he should have some value still. 2nd round pick is probably what it would take, otherwise Columbus keep trying to get him going. (His value falls off a cliff if he did in fact request a trade though. Maybe 5th rounder?)

Other guys all seem like they could be had for free or swap them for another prospect who is struggling. Teams are probably happy to have the contract slot.

Now I am not a fan of any of these teams, so I am very open to being wrong.

Turcotte is still waiver exempt so no rush for LA to move him. However, Tobias Bjornfot will be on the move first, and I fully expect Turcotte to be a healthy scratch next year until he proves he deserves a spot. From what I can tell, he isn't far off. Lafreniere and Turcotte were the last two players to be sent down before Arvidsson got injured.

Chinakhov agent is a bit of a handful…I wouldn’t put too much into his one-off comments. But if they sold him, I think he has proved up his skillsets (particularly shot and skating) enough to justify his surprising draft position.

Turcotte should be fairly valuable trade chip…but doubt they just move him for picks. (Maybe for goalie in off-season?)

Don’t think others are all that enticing.

Turcotte is the highest rated C/LW prospect in the Kings system. Their injuries (and suspensions) so far have been to RWs (Arvidsson, Kaliyev). If there is an opening at LW or C that requires a call-up, Turcotte will be the first one up.

I'll go so far as to say the Kings have no interest in trading Turcotte right now, unless it's for something that helps them immediately.

Rees is a good C, hardworking and physical. The problem he has in the Canes system is that he doesn’t have a clear pathway to the NHL, at least with Carolina. I mean, for this season, it was a dogfight between Drury, Suzuki, and Ponomarev for the 4C slot, and Drury won it mostly due to Suzuki and Ponomarev getting injured during the preseason, but also due to him already having NHL experience. Rees also would have to deal with the added competition with Pashin and Robidas playing pretty well, and that isn’t counting all the wing prospects he might have to beat out for playing time on the wing. It would be a shame to see him go, but he could probably be had for a 2nd or 3rd. Value is kind of hard to gauge with Rees.

As for Gunler, he seems like he might be a late bloomer, but it seems as time continues on, he becomes more of a boom or bust prospect. Value is hard to gauge with him as well, with a 2nd or 3rd probably being enough, but he should at least be a good bottom 6 option, maybe someone like Noesen is who he develops into. Gunler also has some stiff competition on the wings he would have to beat out for NHL playing time, and with guys like FUS, Blake, Emerson, Lucius, Mukhanov, Nadeau, Perron, Trikozov, and Perevalov all being younger and developing really well so far, he has a tough route to the NHL.

Tracey is a bust IMO. It's extremely unlikely that the Ducks give him a qualifying offer after the season, so if you want him just wait and offer him a contract as a free agent.

Ya that’s what I was thinking for turcotte + maybe a middle prospect. Can’t see anyone giving up a 1st at this point

Thanks for the reply .mYa I just remember Rees being real good at the world juniors thought for sure he’d make at least the bottom 6. Maybe he’ll get a look elsewhere . As for gunler I remember hearing he took nights off which might explain why he’ll be turning 23 into next season and nowhere in sight and back in Europe. Sadly despite his talent I think he’ll end up staying in Europe at this point

It also doesn’t help that the Chicago Wolves decided to screw the Canes by attempting to go independent. It has definitely stunted several of the Canes prospects growth. In particular, Drury, Kochetkov, and a few others. Rees and Gunler would be included on that list as well.

A combination of things. As a player he's never taken that next step that you want to see, but it hasn't been all on him either. The Gulls have been a train wreck for three years running now with super poor coaching and a lack of development across the board. It didn't help that Anaheim was so bad that they pulled all the best talent like McTavish straight into the NHL making the talent level in San Diego lower than it should be. Throw in the chaos of the pandemic for a few of Tracey's key development years and here we are.

He might be one of those guys that plugs away in the minors and finally puts it together at age 25 or 26, but that's fighting the odds for sure. For his sake I hope so as I have always wanted him and Perreault to succeed. They were Bob Murray picks though so I don't think Verbeek has any attachment to either one. When their contracts expire I expect GMPV to cut bait so he can use those contract slots on "his guys". The only thing that might change that is if one has a great season. Perreault is doing OK so far. Tracey isn't (IMO).
