Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2023
Published: Dec. 7, 2023

If Willy can't come to an agreement with Tre ... This could honestly involve Marner instead of Nylander, but for some reason I think Canes would prefer Willy with an extension in place. Pesce might have Leafs on NTC list ...

Canes likely decline that but I would probably do it, but I hope they just sign nylander and we can be done with all these trades and other teams signing him next year it’s getting sickening and I highly doubt leafs and Canadians complete a trade and I would decline that one too McCabe has another year at 2M when he’s on the 3rd line next year he’ll be even better then this year

Canes decline that trade.
You'll need to add from the leafs.
Maybe Nylander for Svech 1v1 is more likely to happen.
Then Pesce with an extension in place cost at least a 1st rd pick.

Svechnikov for 5 more years that cheap. Willy is going to want 10 + is he almost $3,000,000 better than a 3 year younger Svechnikov? No. Yeah Don't see Don Waddell doing that.

Sorry I should have clarified ... I think Pesce only signs extension in the summer after he gets a taste of TO (wins the cup 😉). A trade like this would probably require a few things to happen first:

1) Canes start to think internally that this isn't their year, but they still want to compete for playoffs and make larger changes for next year.
2) Pesce & Nylander extensions look like long shots for their respective clubs.
3) Svech isn't playing up to expectations.
4) NTC's waived.

Habs have no reason to trade Savy for McCabe .... just to flip him for the same type of Dman... if we trade Savard, it's for pick or assets.

Ya this is only if it's obvious they can't come to an agreement with Willy in season and decide it's best to move him then.

Canadiens trade was just to show they'd potentially have the flexibility to make a move like that. I think McCabe is pretty valuable to a rebuilding team (he'd play top 4 minutes and get a good return at the deadline, could retain again), but less so to the Leafs (I think Leafs have decent internal/cheaper options for the 3rd pair next year).

I agree Svech isn't playing well, but he his 23. Willy is 27. I have same expectation for svech when he will be 27 as Willy.

Fair argument for sure. I probably wouldn't do it if I was Don, but maybe he feels it's time they finally get that superstar player, and if Pesce isn't going to resign, Svech maybe not living up to expectations, Nylander having a huge year, could all add up to a decision like this.

Svech isn’t getting moved. Period. And it’s quite delusional to think that Nylander pulls that much. Of course Svech isn’t playing up to expectations right now, I mean, he just came back from a major injury. And frankly, with that in mind, he is still putting up a respectable amount of points given the circumstances, and that’s without mentioning that the majority of the team isn’t playing up to expectations.

Am I overvaluing Nylander a bit? Sure, but based on their stats he's worth about 4.4M more per season than Svech atm, and I'm talking about a very specific set of circumstances that would need to happen for this kind of a trade to go down. Admittedly, it's very unlikely, but I don't think the value is that far off.

Would you prefer Marner?

It's difficult to respond to both of these comments with one sentence lol but I will try

McCabe has been bad this year (REAL BAD, Savard could do plenty more than hold his jock), but he's shown pretty well in previous seasons, is 3+ years younger than Savard, and on a relatively cheap contract for next year, where he could play meaningful minutes and be traded at the deadline. I didn't realize Savard was signed for next year so the trade needs something else (probably a 2nd or 3rd+4th) for that additional retention.

McCabe had a rough start and has settled in nicely the past 10 or so games, Savard has been bad for like 3+ years, so bad that he could, in fact, not hold mccabe's jock. He's been abysmal on a comical scale. He is worse than mccabe in every single way

Good to see your calling Brisebois a moron because he gave a 1st and 3rd for savard less than 3 years ago.

That was from when he signed so ya you full of it.

I mean you're objectively wrong about Savard, so I doubt any discussion will get us anywhere there. Maybe McCabe has been a bit better than the start (where he was one of the worst players in the league) but he's still struggling mightily.

No, im objectively not wrong, savard is much much much worse than mccabe. I never said mccabe was amazing, just that he's better. And, if anything, that just makes savard look even worse.
