lol what. Boeser and Laine are effectively the same player: a streaky RW with an incredible shot and questionable work ethic, and both recentlyish lost their fathers they were very close to. Both have significant injury concerns. Yes, Laine has the higher ceiling, but Boeser is currently having the better season, is cheaper, signed for less term, and Laine is a bad fit for Columbus. Let’s be honest. This is a fantastic deal for Columbus, and Vancouver is the one that says no. And I say this as a Jackets fan.
I don't think you've paid much attention to Boeser. Boeser doesn't have injury concerns; he's only missed 25 games across the last four seasons, about 8 games/season. I wouldn't say his work ethic is questionable either, as proven this past offseason and the start of this season. The reason Brock didn't perform well in previous seasons is because of his father's health, he even mentioned last night in the interview that he was having to choose between hockey and family. As for streaky, I wouldn't agree on that either. His longest streak over the past two seasons was 4 goals over 5 games; if you look at Boeser's game logs you'll see that he scores, a couple of games pass, he scores, a few games pass, he scores, etc. Even this year, I think the longest stretch you could potentially say was games 10 through 16, where he scored 7 goals, but again there were a couple of games in between there where he didn't score, and a couple of games after he scored, too. Boeser's longest stretch without a goal was last season, where he didn't score for the first 11 games.
I agree that Laine is the better goal scorer, however, this is the first time Vancouver has seen Brock have this drive and energy since his rookie year. Without the emotional and mental challenges, I think we're going to see Boeser be that 40-goal scorer that many dreamed of in his rookie season.
