Boone Jenner is not available. For one thing, he’s out 6-8 weeks with a broken jaw right now.

Ideally, you could get him with retention but a shutdown line of Gregor - Kampf - Coleman is legit.

Wow, I dont think there's a single metric out there that would justify that ask. But fair enough, Matheson isn't available

I mean you are asking for your lifelong rivals best D, who also happens to be a top 20 D in the league. Knies ain’t anything special too

While Knies might not be a superstar he's a rarity in the sport, a big, two-way player who forechecks well. Montreal drafted Slaf first overall in hopes he'd be that kind of player.

Matheson is good but top 20 just isn't true, he's closer to a top 40 D than top 20. I could easily name 20 - 30 defenders that have better on ice results or are a bigger name across the league.

He's a useful player but if he's your number one defender you will not be a playoff team, let alone a cup contender.

Look at the league D leaders, as of right now he is 16th in points, 20th in ppg and doesn't give a lot up defensively. He literally is top 20 in the league at this point in the season. Also he is on pace for 56 points, that makes hime easily worth Knies+

I mean points are one thing (most of his points are from being on the PP and he's tied for 57th in even strength points), but his defensive statistics aren't very strong this year.

Granted it could be a Gavrikov situation where the team is dragging down a good player, but again he's closer to the Tanev or Brodie tier of defenders rather than being a true number one D on a playoff team

Absolutely, he shouldn't be a number one guy and the lack of scoring up front is definitely dragging him down a bit but I would say he is closer to a Klingberg in Dallas than Tanev or Brodie (45-60 point mostly offensive guy)

I kinda doubt the Blues would move Torp, but Hayes should be eminently available and affordable. The problem is, you'd presumably need to send some cap back, and the Blues would want nothing to do with all the ones you'd want to send over (Kampf, Reaves, etc). If you want the Blues to retain half for most of three years, well the price obviously goes up. At that point, we're probably talking a 2nd/B-ish prospect. Seeing as how you apparently won;t have one of the former for years to come, it would need to be a young player. Frankly, I'm not sure has the right B-ish prospect to offer in that scenario.

??? Klingberg is on LTIR until the end of the year and Reaves can be waived to facilitate the move

What about a package involving Minten for Hayes (w/retention)? I like the Hayes fit if he's on our third line, but again I don't really know the value the Blues have attributed to Hayes so maybe I'm off base here.

Dude, the Blues would taken Minten straight up for Hayes half-retained. You could even toss in Timmins for more cap. But the Leafs would never do that... right?

Yeah, I meant moreso Minten + an asset for Hayes + asset.

      Something like:

Minten + Timmins for Hayes (w/retention) + Toropchenko

      Or

Minten + Reaves for Kapanen + Hayes both with retention

Knies is a second liner at max. Matheson is 16 in the league in pts and is good defensively. He can play 25+ min a night. Knies is a small ask

Ok then please look at how to fit $4.875M under the cap. I have tried and I can't. Again, forget about a retention.

Minten + Reaves for Kapanen + Hayes both with retention

Well, the second one is a definite and resounding no. The first one is probably rejected, as well, but that second one... WOOF.

The answer to all of your questions is the standard leaf offer. Timmons, Robertson and a 3rd. that offer can get any player in the league

Ok then please look at how to fit $4.875M under the cap. I have tried and I can't. Again, forget about a retention.

      4.15 (LTIR) + 1.15 (Reaves being wavied) = 5.3
