If we're trading Zegras, the main part of the deal coming back is a 1RW, not futures and a 3C we don't need.

I don’t believe acquiring rentals at the cost of near NHL ready prospects is a priority of the Wings.

Tampa Bay declines. They aren't trading Thompson for a rental.

Honestly, was thinking he can play center...then move to wing when guys return.
(and thats about it)

Its Pat Verbeek. Stevie takes his call. He's got to, no?. Its his protege.

I understand what you are saying. I do. But to an outsider, I can see how some would think they would be open to rentals or trading futures

(also, I'm a Devils fan...so don't hold this against Duck fans)

I know you’re a devils fan, and I also believe you’re actually knowledgeable on the game which helps.

It’s definitely understandable why people would assume with the moves made that the rebuild is over. It is not.

Kane cost next to nothing, low risk with a high reward.

Cat trade added a cost controlled 2x40 goal scorer who is in his prime at the cost of a one dimensional forward who OTT fans want sent to the moon, an excess 1st, and the 6-7th ranked LHD prospect.

Detroit “had” a top 3-5 prospect pool, while heralding most of that on the back end. Yzerman addressed the offense (results speak for themselves) and brought in stop gaps until those prospects are ready. So far, so good.

So far, so good indeed.

Need young dmen to develop…and maybe a little spark offensively from one of the young centers (Kasper, Danielson…or kinda hope it will be Red Savage). But most their long-term needs can be addressed in-house.

Yes they do! Edvinsson looks the part. I've been on the Wallinder train since the start (as Seider's future partner). AJ looks solid but I don't think he gets it done much offensively (most physical of the D prospects prior to Cleveland being selected).

On the right side, If ASP keeps his development going the Wings will finally have a true offensive defenseman.
