Columbus and Toronto both pass. Unless Nylander comes with an extension.
Toronto Passes so quickly. Montreal accepts.

You made the Leafs substantially worse. In the short term... and in the long term.

Jiricek is untouchable and the jackets aren’t going to trade for a rental nylander when they can’t afford his next contract. Leafs aren’t trading nylander in the middle of a playoff run

Even if they could extend Nylander that's just more of supporting the current veteran core that is never going to accomplish anything at a detriment to the future growing core that might still become something. It doesn't make any sense for the Jackets to subtract anything from their current u24 group unless it's Boqvist or or a deeper prospect like Del Bel that might not have a future with the team.

Two late firsts and a rental as a bottom 5 team is not worth a 19 year old future 1RD on an ELC. I wouldn’t trade jiricek for any player on the leafs besides matthews

Jiricek obviously is good and has a ton of value but you can't be serious. Willy and 2 first round picks is a crazy package and would get the leafs something huge but the trade doesn't make sense for either team anyways

Willy doesn’t do anything for the jackets except help them win a few more games and get a worse draft pick before he leaves in free agency. Doesn’t make sense for the jackets to trade arguably the best defensive prospect in the league for a rental they aren’t going to re sign or when they aren’t marking the playoffs. Nylander is more valuable to the leafs than any other team

You're right that it would get them a big return, but it's not a realistic package to be traded anywhere really. Nylander is the kind of player a contender would be interested in and the 1sts are what a team looking to tear down and start a rebuild would be interested in. There are players on the Jackets that could certainly be targeted by the Leafs with those 1sts or other picks, but I can't see them having any interest in Nylander or in trading any of their good young players.

you do realize you can flip players right? Like the trade isnt a keep him forever sort of thing. This is an insane win on every level for the blue jackets and pretending otherwise is just not paying attention. two firsts plus whatever you can get for a 50% retained Nylander from a contender is well worth Jiricek and you know it, especially with the added bonus of moving Elvis' horrible deal. The Jackets take this and run if the leafs ever do enough uppers to offer this

No they don't. They'd be needing to get the exact same quality of player again as Jiricek and nobody is trading that kind of player for this package. The teams that would be interested in a Nylander don't have a Jiricek to trade and nobody is going to trade a jiricek quality prospect for a bunch of late 1sts spread out over the next few years that could easily become nothing.

What playoff contenders can/would be willing to offer a prospect equal to jiricek? The answer is zero. They would never recoup the value of jiricek. Late firsts are more likely to completely bust than turn into a player like jiricek.

I apologize on behalf of these fellow Leaf fans. I would never trade a top young RHD prospect that ticks all the boxes for an about to be overpaid winger that is one dimensional. If the table was flipped and Jiricek was a Leaf and Nylander on CBJ, Leaf fans would laugh at this if it were offered. So much more value in a young talented up and coming RHD than an offensive winger
