Gonna have to take retention off one of those players, Habs only have a single retention slot left

Not really. Savard would be their best defensive defenseman and Allen is a solid goalie who can win some games when woll isn't playing. They're not giving up a ton and they're in win now mode

You vastly undervalue the importance of Knies then I guess. Trading him should be a non-starter

Remove Knies. Then, add a third going to a third party for the retention. Then it’s fair

Knies is fine but at best he's a physical middle 6 complementary player. Not hard to replace. Bunting was better than him and bunting isn't very good

What a ridiculous comparison. Knies is 21, Toronto acquired Bunting at age 25. The ceiling on Knies is absolutely higher.

Allen is also a mid to slightly below average goaltender. And Savard is a depth defenseman. To me this would be like Boston trading Poitras, Trent, a 1st and 3rd for Dvorak and Savard. Which to me is a moronic deal for the Bruins

I wish they had an unlike button for comments like this. He is in his first year and playing on the top line. You must not watch the games or be a Leafs fan. Knies is untouchable. Not to mention Kampf has been playing great.

He's like half a point per game playing with 2 superstars. He's fine but he's not a star. Kampf has definitely not been good

Poitras is much better and more valuable than knies. Bunting was much better than knies so knies ceiling is around a bunting level but more physical. Not a huge loss

Yeah no. Knies' ceiling is mich higher than you are giving him credit for and I'm not even a Leafs fan. Both Poitras and Knies are projected to be 2nd line, ~50 point players

Habs can't retain twice and Knies is untouchable. That tells you enough about this post's quality.

Savard is 33, skates like a cruise ship, and his best years are far behind him.
Allen is serviceable but way overpaid for what he brings. Even at half retention he's still too much to leave the Leafs enough room for other improvements.
Knies is a non-starter.
Drop the first, drop Knies, add a B- prospect, drop Savard on Montreal's end, and you're good.

The Tanev trade doesn't make sense, you're trading your 2RD, 3RW, and a 3rd for a guy that's going to be injured again in fifteen minutes. The asking price has been reported to be a 2nd to everyone but the Leafs, with them wanting a huge overpay to deal with the Leafs because they're mad about Brad. If you already know you're going to have to overpay, just don't do the deal.

I’ve seen some horrible trade proposals on this site but that Habs disaster may just take the cake … I smell a Habs fan posing as a Leafs fan 😂. #rentfree

Sometimes I sit back and look at peoples comments and wonder if they have ever even watched a game. Soccer league over and you came over to troll hockey fans? Knies is a stud and is his first year, you’re a dud and probably in you’re 40th+ year

I’m starting to think people are putting Knies in trades like this to just get comments. 🙄

Not really. Knies was never a big point guy in the ncaa or ushl. Poitras put up a lot of points in his d+1. He's also 2 years younger so clearly his ceiling is much higher

I watch every game. I watch him barely put up points at 21 years old playing with the most paid player in the league and another 10 million dollar player. I'm not sure if anyone in the league has better linemates

They are 1 year and 5 months apart. Hence why they were only drafted 1 year apart.

the NCAA is a significantly harder league to score in than the OHL. And even if you compare Poitras 95 points last year to Knies 42 there is a huge gap in their actual goal scoring. Poitras only had 16 goals in the OHL last year and had 79 assists. Knies is much more of a goal scorer.
