Rebuild cuz why the hell not

Created by: sens65
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 25, 2023
Published: Dec. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What a semi realistic Senators teardown would look like. Obviously they aren't going to rebuild again but if they did...

Everyone gets traded except Stutzle and Sanderson.

So...which teams say yes and which say no to these trades?

Rangers aren’t trading Othmann or Perreault for rentals/older players. We’d be interested for a futures move. Feel they’d prefer taking a run at Chychrun or Tkachuk if OTT wants Othmann and Perreault.

All of the deals except maybe the Toronto and Edmonton ones definitely favour the other team. Cowan and Niemela are great prospects but guys like Zub are very rare and there are basically none at his age with that much term left. There would be a huge bidding war for him.

That's fair but Giroux isn't just any rental he's a guy who singlehandedly makes your team way better. Plus we retained 50%.

And you'd very likely be able to re-sign Giroux for slightly under market value.

Maybe some other team but zero chance Leafs would move Cowan (maybe Niemela) for a 2nd pairing dman. We disagreed earlier & good example here - Zub is ok but nothing special. SENs are 28th (& consistently out of playoffs) for a reason and it’s not just coaching. Players aren’t that special imo

I could see the Sabres being interested in Tkachuk
Idk that we’d give up that much, or if we’d give those particular pieces…. but we have so much young talent, I’d imagine a deal could be made

I would hope so, but Tkachuk is soooo far from what the Sabres have been building, I'm not sure if they would even understand the trade, let alone be willing to give up multiple high end pieces to get him.

I think it evens out. I made an effort to try not to fleece the other teams. Usually with these kinds of posts the rebuilding team ends up with 22 1st round picks AND a better, younger roster than before lol.

Take Benson out and add Savoie and I would do that Deal.
Benson Mitts Tkachuk
Skinner Tage Tuch
JJ Cozens Quinn
That's a Nice Top 9

I probably wouldn't mind that swap. Savoie was picked 4 spots higher in the draft and they're both small, skilled forwards.

I mean you could take Savoie out and add Ostlund, he's just probably 2 years away. Sabres have a plethora of qaulity Prospects.

That's why I chose Buffalo for the Tkachuk trade. I initially went with Florida cuz they'd want both Tkachuks on the same team but...they have legit zero good prospects so I was like nah.

Would you combine two of the trades into something like this?

Brady Tkachuk and Artem Zub to Buffalo for Savoie, Ostlund, Krebs, Samuelsson, 1st round pick plus one more good prospect.

I wouldn’t say that
We have made an effort to get some physical players lately,
particularly Clifton & Greenway before that

Dude, that’s quite the overpay
Especially considering Tkachuk isn’t having the year he had last season

I would need to look at the Cap and stuff, might have to take some money back. But I do like Zub, another guy that could fit. Guys a Dzone start machine at almost 70%.

It's not bad for Detroit, but Chychrun would be our 8th defensemen on the roster and just clog up more space for Edvinsson (when Chychrun is not injured).
Try a different team and ask for a little more.

Yeah, I would probably take out Ostlund and maybe add kisakov. Maybe add another mid pick but I don't think another good prospect is needed.

Samuelsson and Zub's contracts cancel each other out cap wise but yeah Tkachuk is making 8.2.

It’s good value I won’t argue that but it’s not smart. Rangers are Better off waiting for these guys to come up and use ELC’s to pursue other players and grow with young talent.
