Edm is on Ullmark NTC.

LA does not have the cap space.

NJ might accept. Everyone else easily declines. They also are terrible moves for Boston.

Boston is retooling, not rebuilding. We don't want to risk taking on Jack Campbell's contract with 3 seasons remaining after this one. Keep in mind, with EDM retaining 50%, they also get 50% of the cap relief if we send him down to Providence. You would be risking taking on 1.875m in dead cap space for the rest of this season and the next 3 seasons just for Campbell, not to mention the 2.5m in dead cap space this and next season for retention on Ully. The team also instantly gets worse with Ully gone. In my opinion this isn't anywhere near worth a couple of first round picks that might be late in the draft.

I don't think the Sharks do either of those. The value isn't really there for Sturm, and the Sharks aren't going to want to retain any amount for 7 years unless the return is sizable, which that is not.

Hawks would be very willing to give you Tinordi, but no thanks on the 5’9” AHL player, you can keep him. Hawks already have their fill of undersized forwards.

That’s not how retention works. Edmonton would pay the 2.5 whether he’s in the AHL or NHL.

2 1sts to dump Campbell
1 1st for Ullmark

Take away a 1st for the extra 5 mill Edmonton is retaining.

Zero proof Ullmark put EDM on his 15 team NTC. There’s worse teams to go to than playing w Mcdavid. This is a “Retool” adding quality picks. Swayman is getting 7-8.5 million. Do you really think BOS wants to pay 2 Goalie’s next year 13.5 million? I understand Goaltending is their biggest reason for success. Our current forwards group is #7-14 in the league. They’d allows us to win a round or 2 (if that). Adding Hertl (Czech mafia) makes them contenders. We aren’t deep enough for one goalie to ride the pine in playoffs. I wouldn’t be shocked with BOS D-zone system if Campbell actually is a decent back up for 1-2 years. Then buy him out. I’ll take the first round picks

Elliotte Friedman is the only real source. He never reported it.

Bussi is struggling at Prov right now. DiPietro is outplaying him.

The Hawks are not using one of their last two retention spots to trade Tinordi for an AHLer and 7th round pick.

Not commenting on the rest of this, but that is how cap retention works. If a team retains 50% of a player's cap hit, they also get 50% of any cap relief or penalties, whether it is buyout cap hit or buried allowance.

Unless the CBA has changed it’s not. When Dubnyk was retained by both Edmonton and Nashville and then sent down by MTL, MTL had 0 cap hit, and the 2 retaining teams both had the full retained amount

I cannot find evidence one way or another on this yet. For the record, my source of this info was someone on here, might have been @tkecanuck341.

I see three arguments here, I will address them in turn:

1. We don't want to pay 13m in goaltending next year.

Sure, I can agree with this if there is a deal out there. But retaining 2.5m on Ully and bringing in Campbell for 2.5m does not actually change this from just keeping Ully. It only would have an impact at all if you bury Campbell, and call up a goalie with a salary lower than his buried cap relief, but that would be minimal.

2. Campbell could be a decent backup in our system.

He could be. There is a high risk he won't be given his poor performance in the AHL. We will never know unless they try, but that is a hefty contract to take that risk on.

3. The picks are worth it.

This team could use picks, no doubt. But i think the lost cap flexibility is not worth it. This team as constituted is probably not winning a cup, but if you make this move for these picks, you have to be OK with the idea that we might not be competitive for a few more years. These are not going to be top 5 picks, and they won't be in the league for probably 4 years or so. UFAs fit our situation better than 1st round picks, IMO. I'll take the flexibility over the picks. Now if we can get picks without taking back an albatross contract, I'd definitely entertain that....
