Comitting to the Tank

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2024
Published: Jan. 5, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All trade assume that player waiver their NMC or NTC.

Will the player do it? Who knows... but work with the assumption to evaluate the trades.

Habs use the picks to move up in the draft or acquire a better first round pick.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Harris, Jordan
  2. Pearson, Tanner ($1,625,000 retained)
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (MTL)
2.
MTL
  1. Faksa, Radek
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Kovacevic, Johnathan
Additional Details:
Potential RHD to play with Miro - very responsible youngist stay-at-home D, that can skate it as well (plus he's a big guy).

plus he's very cheap and with Faksa gone, you have 2.4M$ in cap to get more help.

Could also be Savard, but you might have to overpay for him for untangibles (he's a respected D vet on the team), but he would be great for a playoff run - will block shot with his face.
3.
MTL
  1. Guenther, Dylan
  2. 2024 1st round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Matheson, Michael
  2. Monahan, Sean
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
  4. 2025 3rd round pick (VAN)
4.
MTL
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
ANY TEAM - chose ARI not to bait another fan base on my AGM.

Would like at least a late 2nd.

This would certainly result in us losing even more games!

Who do you want in the draft if not Celebrini?

Allen doesn't get a 2nd without retention or taking a contract back

Anaheim doesn't even consider that deal

Habs will keep losing games, what they really need is Ottawa to start winning games

Pearson and Harris don’t really fit anywhere in the Ranger’ lineup.

I’d rather someone better than Pearson and they don’t have use for Harris since he isn’t waivers exempt

Matheson would be a maybe for AZ but there should be no interest in Monahan. Matheson would be a short-term player in AZ so his couple of remaining years would be about it. For that the return would be a 2nd or a B+ prospect like Raty. Certainly not the 1st and/or A prospect suggested.

Harris is a pretty decent young LHD -you'll be suprise!

Pearson is nearly a cheaper goodrow depth-player who has stanley cup experience.

You aren't getting enough value out of taking Goodrow and Faksa contracts.

You'd be lucky to draft a player like Kovacevic in the 2nd round so why not just keep Kovacevic? Harris + a 2nd for a late 1st, why? You're eating $13M in Goodrow and Faksa and getting nothing in return.

Allen not worth a 2nd round pick. A 3rd with taking some salary back maybe.

Rangers pass no matter how many times you post the same trade.

There is absolutely no chance Arizona spends even 2 seconds considering that offer. Just brutal

Last time I posted it - other Rags fan agreed - hey look at that! Different opinion for different folks.

Matheson is 14th in pts for Dman. He would play on your first pair right away.

Maybe the first is too much - but it's not a brutal offer, far from it.

And the next time you post it, and you will, the answer will still be no chance.

Arizona isn’t a Matheson away from anything, it’s a brutal offer. Guenther isn’t even remotely on the table, and if the 1st is then they’re shooting for Hanifin re-signed.
