Wasn't a good return for his brother, who's a better player, either, but it's what the market offered, and if a player is beating a path out of town, that's what you get. Sure, you can counter with Brady is still under contract, but Ottawa has a great young core locked up long term, hanging onto a guy if he doesn't want to be there, especially when he's the Captain, can poison the locker room.

Though I think this trade is off, a copycat trade would be Reinhart, Montour, and a lottery protected 1st.

Verhaeghe and Ekblad will be UFAs in the Summer of 2025 and next season, Ekblad won't have his NMC.

Calgary had 1 full year left on Huberdeau and Weegar before they got their 8 year extensions.

Who do the Leafs have that are equivalent to what Huberdeau and Weegar were in 2022?

You would also need to add a 1st on top of that.

Would do a deal centered around an extended Marner. Worth considerably more than Huberdeau was even then - younger, better 2 way game, comparable production.

Also - wouldn't agree that Brady is worth quite as much as Matthew, who was coming off a ~115 point season
