Let's relax guys. The hit on Bedard sucks but it was clean. The point of impact was the chest but Bedard is short and went down funny and in a freak accident broke his jaw, but this $hit happens in hockey. The Murphy hit was late, but BARELY. It shouldn't have been a penalty, the timing was within parameters laid out in the rulebook. It also wasn't dirty. Sure, CHI was trying to make a statement and there might have been some intent/malice involved, but comparatively, it wasn't that bad. The most egregiously dirty hit was on Guttman, and luckily he got up fine.

Either way I think Smith is worth more than a 3rd. Even though he was traded for a 3rd we arent as desperate as Vegas when it comes to dumping cap and in a selling situation we wouldnt have to worry about it because we'll be moving other pieces to give us cap anyways. I think he could go for at least a 2nd. And honestly wed probably retain and ask for more value for MP and Smith. Again all depends on if we sell or not. The value isnt much off just a slight off.

If smith is much more than a 3rd I’m probably out on him, but he isn’t the key piece in the trade so I’d be fine with taking him and the 3rd out if need be, moving haula to the 1st line and slotting Bastian back into the lineup. Would make our lives a bit easier figuring out contracts in the offseason

If Jacob Trouba did that exact same hit to either Hughes brother and left them with a broken jaw and out for 8 weeks at least, NJ fans would be throwing a fit. They already threw a fit after the completely clean hit Trouba threw onto Timo Meier last May. And any Hughes, and Timo Meier, is no Connor Bedard. NJ fans are most insufferable fanbase in the league. Bedard didn't deserve that at all
