If were going to gut our futures lets do it right

Created by: Reason
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks

Description
Just to be clear, I am NOT in favour of trading significant futures as I don't think Vancouver is a legitimate contender. That said, if we are going open to gutting the prospect pool lets at least get someone that is going to be able to contribute for 3+ years and that we have the potential to resign.

Also, would not be surprised at all if Buffalo doesn't want to to move the player.

I’d imagine get softer is the last thing Buffalo would want to do

Steep price, but for 3 years at that AAV…might be worth it.

But Buffalo is loaded with good winger prospects…what do they do with Lekkerimaki?

I think is a bit much but Buffalo won't want to move him. Not sure Tuch would either.

I am against trading significant futures this year. That said, I see similar value proposals for mid 30's wingers with 1-2 years left at a higher cap hit, so if the Canucks were going to make a big splash for a winger might as well be one that comes with some certainty and a very good cap hit. Tuch also strikes me as a Tocchet type player: big, fast, physical.

This year is trending towards being a bust. Lots of time in the offseason to address grit/toughness.

I get why Buffalo wouldn’t do this. Tuch is great and has a great contract and they already have a lot of young forwards/wingers so Lekkerimaki isn’t really a need. But I don’t think the Canucks would do this either

I mean eventually they’re going to have to learn to win as a group. Not sure where that begins for them. But I’m not sure I’d start with trading a guy who’s been very good for you for futures setting you back 3+ years when they have the prospect pool they already have.

That's fair, and I agree with you, I didn't/don't think Buffalo accepts. The AGM was more of a, "If we (VAN) are going to empty the already bare prospect cupboards, lets get a good fit for a couple years", after seeing posts for mid 30's wingers with higher cap hits and less term.

@Reason, Jumbo is correct
The Sabres have no interest in trading Tuch. He’s probably gonna be our next Captain
He’s pretty much untouchable

Buffalo couldn't have any less interest. That trade is putrid.

If the Sabres are gonna trade a good young player for something, I think mittelstadt for a physical defensive second pair d- would be ideal, I'd add too if it makes sense. We don't need anymore undersized forwards or futures.

Yes, it’s the whole premise of the idea is Buffalo trading Tuch for futures. Please inform me what am I supposed to take from it?

Value doesn’t matter too much when teams are trying to build a winning team/culture. Buffalo is plum full of forward prospects etc.

I hope by insane you mean insanely bad. A bust, spare parts, a prospect Buffalo doesn't need and a pick Buffalo doesn't need

Don't be daft. It's a 39 goals scorer (more than Tuch has ever scored), the reigning WJC MVP (probably a top 30 prospect in hockey now), a nice young roster player and a 1st round pick

You'd never get that much for Tuch anyway. And I'm a big fan of Tuch.

39 goal scorer that's on pace for 19 this year, prospect they still don't need, they don't have room for the forward prospects they have now, which is also why they don't need the pick, as well as a bust that you call a nice roster player, who would be on Buffalos 4th line

Tuch is on pace for like 25 you dingus. Its objectively way more value than Tuch is worth. Basically it's 2 1st and 2 2nds maybe more.

Well the main thing was I wasn’t commenting on value. Value alone is subjective. Why are they trading him? Do they need to? I was simply putting that Buffalo probably shouldn’t be shelling out guys who are productive for futures with where they’re at. And they probably shouldn’t do so while getting softer.

I don’t follow Buffalo enough to know what their issue is. But I’d imagine it stems from the backend or goaltending. None of that addresses the issues at hand.
