Why pay so much for a struggling player who is going to want a huge contract in the offseason?

Zegras and Bedard would be an insane combo. He'll be much better with a bedard type of player

If we are trading those assets I would rather trade for someone else.

He literally scored two goals last night, calm the F down.

Was this Verbeek letting Z hear the branch creek? Maybe, but I would imagine trading Z right now means Verbeek's head by end of season per ownership. Still need to put bums in seats and Zegras does that.

I don't believe CHI is the right place for Zegras at all, and this is too much for CHI to even consider spending right now. I wouldn't be surprised if ANA could get that much or more for him, if they wanted to make him available, but CHI shouldn't be the ones to do it.

It's crazy that people are saying Chicago is the team that would decline this. A struggling Zegras is still a much better player than Reichel, and a late 1st two years from now and a bottom six winger don't change the calculus.

Hawks and Zegras are not a good fit atm, so it’s reasonable for the hawks to want to reject this. It’s really about the money/rebuild status and less about what Chicago is giving up.

A 1st and an NHL roster player doesn't change the calculus? If you actually believe that, I don't even know what to say to you. Reichel is fine. He is having a bad season, but we've seen what he can do on the ice in the past. We don't want or need to move him, and we don't need a Zegras right now or probably ever, after the rebuild is said and done. Our GM has openly stated that he is building from within through the draft and allowing it to happen organically, going out and buying a player like Zegras is the opposite of that.
