I don't get why the Pens do this. You trade a top tier winger a 2nd one of their only good prospects for a young struggling winger that doesn't fit their window.

So....

ANA gives:
Trevor Zegras
Ilya Lybushkin

ANA gets:
Andrei Kuzmenko
Hunter Brzustewicz
Owen Pickering
2024 VAN 1st
2025 PIT 2nd

----

PIT Gives
Jake Guentzel
Owen Pickering
2025 PIT 2nd

PIT gets:
Trevor Zegras

----

VAN Gives
Andrei Kuzmenko
Hunter Brzustewicz
2024 VAN 1st

VAN gets:
Jake Guentzel
Ilya Lybushkin

(just easier to view with both give/get in 3-ways)

I think that is a tough one for VAN

I'd take out Brzustewicz, add Hoglander...and add a smaller piece from PIT to ANA

This is an interesting idea. I would prefer to get a 1st and an A prospect from trading Guentzel. But Zegras would give us tons of flexibility with the lineup. Him playing with Crosby would improve his numbers a ton and that could be the trade that kick starts the rebuild maybe after next season a year and a half from now or he could be someone we build the team around. Would help us contend now and also help the future. I don't know if I am fully on board but its really interesting

It's a really interesting idea, but I'm just trying to gauge value and think about how a trade would work. I would think Guentzel may even have higher value than Zegras on the trade block so I'm not sure if we'd be the one's adding. I can see both sides, it's a tough one

Definitely outside the box. Jake's value is about as high as a deadline pick can be. Once again over a point per game and on pace for almost 40 goals. Guys like that don't become available all too often.

I'm not a fan of this for the Pens, personally. I'm skeptical about Zegras's ability to add the same value Jake does before the Pens are a basement dweller. We're downgrading in the short-term and giving up good future assets. Zegras is an electric player at his best, but he's hardly been at his best recently and he doesn't fit the Pens' timeline well.

I think the Ducks would have to add. How much I'm not sure. But I think Guentzel for Zegras straight up would not be smart for us.

If I'm reading this correctly, the Pens are basically trading Guentzel, Pickering and a 2nd for Zegras? Seems like a pretty terrible trade, no?
