Canucks decline. They won't pay to dump Myers. Myers, while still a bit overpaid, has actually played great this season. He's also well-liked and a big part of the locker room. Paying a 2nd to dump him makes zero sense for Vancouver.

My biggest memory of Myers from this year was how hated he was by Canucks fans after the 1st Jersey game.

I’d value him as a decent 3rd pairing guy at 2 mill. So a 2nd to dump imo. If you’re fine keeping him tho absolutely fair. Just wondering what the plan is because you can’t bring soucy off IR without clearing cap. I’d assume you’d much rather have Soucy than Myers in the lineup no? Edit mistook poolman for soucy and thought soucy was still on LTIR. Ignore the last part

Chinakhov is having a breakout year. They wouldn’t trade him for a first rounder

Devils would certainly be out at that price. His numbers don’t look much different from last year outside of doubling his shooting%. Is that sustainable?

He's looked night and day from last year. Team is still kinda cheeks, so maybe not showing up in box score cause of that, but his advanced stats have been fairly good. Gives me faith that it's not just a "this guy plays for my team and is doing slightly better, so I think he's breaking out" kinda thing. Regardless though, even if he's not gonna be a core piece, he's still a young player they've invested in for a few years that's finally starting to come along and they need to hold onto those rather than flipping them for picks if they have any hope of turning things around soon/

Myers when kept on 3rd pairing and kept in check is a valuable piece to a team early on was getting too much ice time and the Chaos giraffe kept appearing. The work Foote and Gonchar have done with him I wouldn't mind Vancouver giving him a contract (though imo most I'd offer him is 1m kind repayment of his last contract to be bottom pairing /7th D on the team.)

Absolutely fair. Tho I assume if there was another more expensive fish Vancouver went after Myers would have to be the guy sent back/dumped to clear cap, no?

I don’t think Graves has been horrendous. Just wildly inconsistent and not playing up to that 6 yr 4.5 million per year price tag. If he was 2.5 million per year he’d be fine. I’m ok with keeping Graves for now and hoping he adjusts soon. He played better on the 3rd pair with Ruh. I think he got an unfair shake by the fans given what he was tasked to do as Letang and Karlsson’s partner. Those guys had a tendency to leave graves out to dry.

2.5 mill is a significant price gap. You’re saying he’s overpaid by 12 million over the life of his deal? That’s a lot

Not in the grand scheme of things. The pens only care on a year to year basis. So far this year he is overpaid by 2 million. That could change if he figures it out. But the pens need all the defensive depth they can get tbh.

Yeah only 2 feasible options would be him or Kuzmenko though the hate on Kuzmenko really is getting irritating as he isn't bad he'd have more points but kind of hard when the other 4 people he plays with on the PP have either 50+ pts or 25 goals. I think if he gets traded to a team that will where he can get along with the coach better. He find his niche. Imo his main issue is he too pass first and scored a lot of goals off rebounds or a cross ice pass through defenders from Petterson which has been shut down this year.

Fair enough. Bahl is also being sent back and enough cap to get another rock solid guy if you want tho

Not with the cap starting to go up. In a few offseasons 4.5 will be the new 2.5 million. I agree with Hockeyfan though. People were hard on him because they all had higher expectations. He is starting to settle in now that he has less pressure on him (it's similar to the Matheson situation in Pittsburgh). Dubas won't give up 1st round picks to dump salary. He did in the past, but he doesn't have the prospect pool in Pittsburgh to do so.

Myers is always a really up and down player with the fans, but management seems to be happy with him. He still has his defensive brain cramps once in a while and gives up a great scoring opportunity, but he's got Demko to bail him out. He's an offensive defenceman, and part of the problem in the past is that the Canucks have tried to pair him with another offensive guy like OEL. That simply doesn't work, as he needs a stay at home shutdown partner who can cover for his defensive lapses and allow him to jump up and contribute offensively without risking the counter attack (like last night against the Isles where he ripped one blocker side by Sorokin on a two-on-one break. No flashy play or anything to set it up, just a wicked shot that flat out beat Sorokin). A big part of his success this year in my opinion has been giving him those kind of partners, whether it be Soucy, Cole, or Zadorov.

All in all Myers is a hard asset to value. He's a 3rd pairing offensive guy, and probably worth only $2-$3M based on his on ice production, but he's a big, physical RHD, which drives the price up (Gudbranson 4 x $4M, Mayfield 7 x $3.5M). Based on the market value for guys like those, I'd say he's worth closer to $3.5-$4M, not for his on ice production, but the fact that players like him simply are worth more and get overpaid due to the combination of their size and playing a premium position.

All in all, it simply isn't worth it to pay to dump him, especially at this price. You're essentially paying a 2nd to dump a 3rd pair guy, then probably paying a 1st minimum to add another RHD to replace Myers. In all likelihood, the guy you're bringing in to replace him simply won't be worth the 1st + 2nd + potentially more that you're essentially paying for the upgrade, especially when you factor in that Myers has played well and been a great fit for Tocchet's system while you have no clue if the guy you're bringing in will fit or not. Just isn't worth the risk in my opinion. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
