Anaheim certainly declines

We don’t need another center & Mittelstadt doesn’t feel like a guy Pat would target anyways

If the Leaf's for some reason decided to move on from Marner and he waived his no trade clause they would be doing it for the cap space so there would be 0% chance they would retain salary

I’d consider it. NYR G coaches are top notch. I think he could fit as a back up next year and possibly the starter moving forward if Shesty needs too much

I don’t see the Sabres wanting to do that trade either

It’s only for 1 year though
If it gets the Leafs a better return for Marner- and it definitely should- then they should do it

However, the last thing the Leafs should do is trade Marner

Don’t worry, Sabres have NO INTEREST in Marner
This ACGM was not done by a Sabres fan

I would only consider it if Quick is going to retire and Garand isn't ready yet, but he probably will be, so no need to waste a draft pick.

The Leaf's are in their contender window and if they were to make this deal its because they are using that money on someone else not to get a better prospect or pick.

SERIOUS QUESTION FOR OP - DO YOU THINK THIS IS FAIR FOR BUFFALO?

Toronto Receives:

Tage Thompson ($1,400,000 retained) *** Same $9,300,000 retention as Marner, but spread out over 7 years.
2026 3rd round pick (BUF)
2024 7th round pick (BUF)

Buffalo Receives:

Nick Robertson *** Near identical PPG and GPG as Quinn over last 2 seasons. Both are 22 year old wingers.
Fraser Minten *** Drafted 1 spot earlier than Wahlberg in 2022. Both play center. Canada's captain at WJC.
2026 1st round pick (TOR)

*** M. Marner = 1.30 points per game over last 3 seasons.
*** Thompson = 1.00 points per game over last 3 seasons.
*** Thompson and Marner are both both 26 years old.
*** Thompson's bigger, but Marner's a Selke finalist.

Are you trading Thompson for that?

*** Thompson much bigger, but Marner gets Selke nods.
*** M. Marner = 1.30 points per game over last 3 seasons.
*** Thompson = 1.00 points per game over last 3 seasons.

That implies 2 years of marner at 11 million is worth the same as 7 years of tage at 7 million

I don't think 1 year of mitch marner is more valuable than 6 years of Tage Thompson, no

Absolutely not
That’s not to say that Tage is more valuable than Marner,
although i could make that argument based on their contracts

But my MAIN POINT would be:
The Sabres won’t trade for Marner, period

The last thing we’d be interested in is a high priced forward we’d have to give a HUGE contract to
We just wouldn’t want him

IF Marner was Available to be moved 31 teams would line up to pay him and trade for him

No, they wouldn’t
As good as he is, most teams simply can’t fit him into their Cap

And it’s not that Marner isn’t a great player
It’s just that he comes with a HUGE cap hit, & if we were to bring him in then we couldn’t afford to upgrade goaltending
or top4 RD

🤣 that is the Leafs problem too. We sign these 4 to monster contracts and now we scramble to find depth and quality D every year

Not at 12.5+M. Someone would offer that I’m sure but 31 teams are not in the boat to take that on.

As a Sabres fan, i loved it when u guys signed Nylander
Crazy to me that u guys aren’t learning from past mistakes

Maybe when Tavares is gone u guys will use his Cap better?
But for now it looks like you’re just doing the same old thing again….???

It’s crazy and I find it frustrating. Seems like jersey and ticket sales are more important than winning a Stanley Cup here.
