Still have a winning record

Description
Playoffs is still manageable. Can't be trading away talent like guentzel when we need more talent like guentzel.
One big problem is goaltending. Jarry is inconsistent he's not an elite goaltender like Hellebuyck who has little consistency issues. Jarry is still having an above average season and Nedeljkovic is the same as far as consistency issues however, he makes about 4 million less than Jarry. Spending way too much on Jarry when Ned does the same thing for less.
Reirden also clearly needs to go especially when he draws up blank game plans. Mike Sullivan also clearly needs to go as stacked cup rosters carried the back to backs and he's influenced bad decisions since. Ian Cole, Kessel and lack of powerplay success since, not playing rookies has been a huge problem which he only seems to do when injuries force his hand.

Rakell is overpaid off an outlier year and over 30. Columbus has no interest in that. Marchenko is perfect for their timeline. Plus not sending him to a divisional opponent

Hogs for a 2nd rounder in 2026 and a LWinger who could make Abbotsford more competitve and occasionally play for Vancouver when someone is hurt? Although the value you're giving is light, it's not miles away in what Hogs is probably worth at this point in his career. However the return isn't what the Canucks would need this season.

If we want a top-6 forward who can score at $5M, we'd just give Marchenko the Rakell deal. He's untouchable.

Goaltending is literally the best part of this team - and the main reason they are even close to sniffing a playoff spot.

If p.o. joseph was in that trade then, do you think it moves the needle. He's really fast and has logged top 10 speed marks in the entire NHL. Offensive d like him, will butcher and ty smith are the same archetype and for whatever reason sully doesnt like playing the last two but plays joseph, but anyway...pens have letang and karlsson so they don't really need a third fast offensive d. They need more defensive d in my opinion. Joseph isn't going to get valuable ice time and/ or deployment with those 2 either. We basically should be trading all 3.

Also im both a pens fan and canucks fan. Although, I'd prefer Canucks not to move hoglander or kuzmenko, they are both on the block. Tocchet likes gritty big players not small skilled ones which I think is fine with the current roster for now cause we have a good mix but tip the balance too far and Canucks lose too much skill.

Most important to note here too is that hoglander really only provides good eye test results for now cause of his limited role in the middle 6 or bottom 6. He's on a great deal. There's no way we get a fair return for him.

It will be similar to trading luke schenn last year. He's good and on a great deal and they only got a third because of his role. Its not even worth trading players like that. Schenn and hog should('ve) stay(ed).

Most of the goalies that make around 5 million or more though have accolades. Whether its a presidents trophy, vezina, jennings, Stanley Cup.

But that doesn't prove what I'm saying wrong - or what you're saying right.

I mean i guess, he hasnt been terrible. He's been good especially if you look at his stats or the eye test. But the consistent impending really bad game happens like within the next 5 starts of a good start. Personally, I think crosby has been the best part of this season.

Well obviously he hasn't been terrible this year haha - far from it. Yes - he's been good both on numbers and eye test. That's all that matters. Trading a goalie who is playing great because you think he'll have 1 bad start in a 5 game span just doesn't make much sense to me - especially when your replacement is terrible. I think you can make the argument that Crosby has been the best individual player, sure. But overall, goaltending is what's been keeping them near a playoff spot. Both goalies have been amazing
