Blues fans thoughts on the season

Description
It's been a very weird season for Blues fans. A ton of inconsistency in this team, one night we'll somehow win against a top team in the league and the next night we'll be embarrassed.

Our top line is the only offense we have right now. The bottom 9 is just brutal.

I think the progression of Kessel and Perunovich is going nicely. Both look like they have the ability to be top 4 defenders. I also liked how Neighbours was looking but ever since he started playing with Schenn his numbers have died. I like him with Thomas and I would keep him up on the top line.

The Blues look old and slow to me most nights. The addition of Hayes has really been horrible he shows such little effort every night and likes to pick up goals or assists when we're down big in a game with no chance of coming back.

Our defense is slowly getting exposed. Leddy is just horrible, if he doesn't get bought out in the offseason or traded our defense has no hope of looking good. Krug has been predictably bad. He needs a defensive dman to play with and the Blues just don't have that. I liked how he looked with Kessel though. Faulk has been good to me this year but he's clearly still hurt and not ready to be in the lineup. I have no clue why we rushed him back when we had Kessel playing great.

Below I just did some trades to really start the rebuild. Let young players play or at least give the fans something to be excited about. I think we could trade Faulk (who likely has the most value of a blues defender not named Parayko) and replace him with Kessel. I would get rid of all pending UFAs besides Sunny.

I would also look to move Schenn or Hayes before their value truly tanks so those trades are also proposed.

The trades below are just more of an idea of who all I would move out and the type of players/picks I would want in return. The Blues need to get younger and more exciting and add some picks and continue to draft good. That will be our key to a good rebuild.

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Robertson, Nicholas
Additional Details:
Gives the Blues some skill and potential and gives Toronto some playoff style hockey players. Kap played his best in Toronto so maybe he could reignite his offense there. He's been great for the Blues this year he just can't seem to score.

Another team retains 50% on Kaps contract for a 5th.
TOR
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Scandella, Marco ($1,637,500 retained)
  3. 2024 5th round pick (STL)
2.
STL
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. Schneider, Braden
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
This move would signal the rebuild. The blues would take on a horrible contract in Goodrow and give up their captain. The return would have to hurt the Rangers.

If not Schneider then maybe Kakko.

Condition on the 2nd to become a first if the Rangers make the Stanely cup.
3.
STL
  1. Berggren, Jonatan
  2. Määttä, Olli
  3. 2024 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Detroit has been rumored to want a defender. Their prospect pool has a ton on the left side but not much on the right side. Here they get Faulk at decent value as they've reportedly been willing to trade Berggren for a defender. The Boston first will be very late as well.

If the Blues decide to move on from Faulk there should be solid interest in him. He's a very good top 4 defender and brings some leadership. Again, unlikely but this is all just hypothetical.
4.
STL
  1. Åman, Nils
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Vancouver has been reported to be interested in middle 6 scoring help. Saad can do just that. I think Saad is a poor fit for the Blues scheme. We love to dump and chase and he would rather carry it in.

I think Saad would have interest from a contender but his salary could become a problem and hurts his value.
5.
STL
  1. Chmelevski, Alexander [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
If he's willing to come over to the NHL the Blues could offer him a spot as the 2C. That'd be pretty hard to turn down.

San Jose would get a young prospect in Alexandrov who just needs playing time and a mid round pick.
SJS
  1. Alexandrov, Nikita
  2. 2024 4th round pick (STL)
6.
STL
  1. 2024 5th round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Blais would look nice down in Florida. The blues view him as a grinder but he could be a lot more. He proved that last year but for some reason the Blues have stuck him on the 4th line this year. Either way he'd be a fit with Floridas physical style and would come cheap.
7.
STL
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Any playoff team looking for a middle 6 center/winger.
NYI
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($1,785,714 retained)
8.
STL
  1. 2024 6th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Anywhere for anything. He plays top pair but I'm not tired of watching him play every night over Perunovich.

If nobody wants him I'd just buy him out in the offseason.

Drury says no thanks, the Rangers are all set at 1C and 2C so no need for Schenn and no chance you get Schneider.

The Rangers can buyout Goodrow this summer and it would have very little negative impact on their cap situation going forward.

Why not post that the NYR give up Schneider or Kakko for future considerations.

No thanks from Detroit, not a player we would target.

unfortunately I don't think so. Hayes could be an option from the Blues though.

Kapanen's play faltered incredibly hard under Keefe, doesn't have the IQ for his system at all. Plus there were off-ice issues with him that they wanted to rid themselves of. Can't see them bringing him back.

I’ve traded Schneider about a dozen times lol. I’d definitely trade him but not for Schenn.

Hayes is someone I could see the Rangers go after again ONLY if Chytil is determined out for the season (which at the moment seems unlikely). The salaries and positions match up well

Ol lead foot Schenn is a much bigger dump than Goodrow, so obviously pass.

I'm sure the value is fine but Vancouver passes the player doesn't really fit our needs, we are more so looking for a High end top 6 winger, or a good second line center

blues decline the leafs trade... thats an overpay especially because we would almost need to retain both kap and scandella. so for both of them retained id take robertson and a 4th
