Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
WPG
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Not really interested in Monahan when he's compared to the other 2c options, but it's better than not adding anything.

Alternatively, Jets legend Nick Suzuki could be available if Chevy gets Hughes drunk enough.
MTL
  1. Jonsson-Fjällby, Axel
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
AJF is a throw-in to free up a roster spot. Would rather send Stanley, but I know MTL has no need for another LHD.

I think Chevy is smart enough to say no. There's just no world where a depth 4C is worth moving a very high second for.

The Jets are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL they shouldn't be going out of their way and overpaying for one of the worst defensive players in the NHL from a bad team.

In this case adding nothing is the far mire desirable option.

Don't think a deal like that makes sense for MTL. Swapping Monahan for AJF to move up 20 spots in the draft

"depth 4C" would be tied for 6th on WPG in pts, and would lead WPG in FO%

He’d only be 13th in 5v5 points on WPG. He could help their PP though. The value he provides is on the PP and on faceoffs, 5v5 he doesn’t help much

Jets Decline
Monahan isn’t a fit in WPG and isn’t worth that return

Scheifele, Namestnikov, Lowry and Kupari are all better than Monahan.

Don't forget Monahan only has 8 ES points, comparable to most low end bottom sixers and is awful defensively, is slow and is a bad skater. He's not getting the PP1 time in Winnipeg that he gets his points from in Montreal.

You need to make sure you portray Monahan fully and accurately for what he is and not just cherry pick the 2 things he's okay at.

Face offs are overrated by fans, the Jets are bad at them, yet are amongst the top teams in the league.

Monahan is really good defensively, you never watched him play. The only downside on Monahan is his health, skating and not very physical (but wins his puck battles). I would take Monahan on one leg over Namestnikov, Kupari & Lowry together

No he's not good defensively he's bad. His advanced stats show that Montreal and the players he plays with are worse defensively when he's on the ice. You may need to pay more attention when you watch him instead of watching with the red goggles on.

All 3 Jet players are better than Monahan by quite a fair margin in Lowry's and Namestnikov's case

You put Lowry between Pearson & Gallagher and he would be -50 after 15 games

God I hope he gets traded to the Jets, the return doesn't even matter at this point, it would be more than enough value just to shut up the trolls on here saying that Monahan offers nothing to the Jets and they aren't interested and blah, blah, blah

Yes, you can make all the excuses for him you want, but he's just not good.

You like Monahan better that Nam, Lowry and Kupari and Jet fans know that Monahan is a downgrade on all 3.

So, here's a bargain, you keep and resign Monahan and the Jets avoid him. Everyone's happy.

They better resign Monahan if the offers are even close to this. A trade like this is simply trading Monahan to Trade him while adding no value at all.

Windyturd calling Monahan a bad player. I mean, he can’t even try to be reasonable. There is a reason teams are interested and it isn’t cause he’s a bad player

But it doesn’t matter it was the same with kulak, Lehkonen and Chiarot. They all dismiss their past awful opinions and continue the toxicity

That's not how that works though, outside of the FO%. Monahan is a good stats/bad team guy. Someone has to score...someone has to play top PP.

Bad team guy? what?

Dont worry they are a few points out of the playoffs and with Joshua Roy being on Monahan's line. They are a lot more balanced atm. Anything less than a 1st isnt worthwhile as Monahan can be an own rental on a core that needs his 'bad team' energy or whatever other wrong platitude you want to use. They arent the Senators or Sabres looking to 'bad team' energy (lol i cant get over that one) another player to Winterpeg.
