Buffalo would rather keep Casey than trade him to Vancouver, and I don’t see Buffalo having interest in Kuzmenko.

First trade is interesting. Second deal seems an overpay though.

If Kuzmenko's a bad fit for the Sabres, then it wouldn't be a generous return would it?

Mittelstadt is on pace for 70 pts, in his mid 20s and is an RFA. The pick will be what 25th? And the B+ prospect. Of the many things wrong with the Sabres, an abundance of B+ prospects isn't one of them lol.

The team can't afford to trade a guy who is producing as well as mittelstadt is for futures amidst a 13 year playoff drought. There'd be no one left at the games.

generous return

At the end of last season VAN would have wanted Casey and a first for Kuzmenko.
This year he is a throw in, almost an afterthought in a trade featuring a 1st and a prospect.
Buffalo has FIVE 20 yo or younger forward prospects better than Raty.
Remove Kuzmenko plus the 3rd and replace Raty with Hunter Brzustewicz to get the conversation started.
Look to the recent trades of Newhook (31st and 37th OA) and Hagel (16th OA plus a first) for Casey's value.

Not only would we NOT be interested in Kuzmenko,
but we have many prospects coming that are better than Raty
And we don’t even have room for all of them

It’s not the “value” of the offer that’s bad,
but it just doesn’t make sense AT ALL for us to trade Mitts for “pieces”
Even if they’re good pieces

We aren’t looking to trade Mitts,
no matter what your local reporter pulls outta his a$$
Lol

Sabres get nothing they need. They don't need forwards, prospects, or forward prospects

Wow you guys have homer goggles on. Those two 'prospects' are AhLers and those picks aren't high.
Can't wait to come right back here at trade deadline when Monahan goes for 1st rounder. Savard also worth a 3rd rounder minimum.

No thanks from buffalo.

We'd only move on from mittelstadt due to our abundance of forwards both on the roster and prospects.

We wouldn't be interested in this trade.

A bunch of crap for 2 veterans ending up .... on your 2nd line and 1st pairing! it's lowballing, not an overpay.

I didn't make the lines. Savard isn't a top dman. Rather play Cole.

If you think Brzustewicz is crap you haven’t paid any attention this season. He leads the OHL in points in his D+1 year as a dman. That like if I called Hutson crap because he wasn’t a high pick

A) Mtl has enough defense prospect anyways
B) I'm not calling him crap, but Mtl already have a bunch of Blevel prospects. Enough already, we need something to move the needle on offense.
C) Hutson is better, playing in a more demanding league NCAA>>OHL and Brzustewicz is just racking up assists on a high scoring team. Nothing super promising for the Habs to take more of the same of what they already have.

A) I’ve seen MTL fans say they should target more RHD, and that LHD is where they have too many guys
B) the other commenter I quoted said it was crap so that was aimed at him not you
C) yes Hutson is a better prospect, but I was using him as a comparable as he wasn’t drafted very highly either (although reading it back I think I misinterpreted, when you said those picks weren’t high my mind thought you were talking about Brzustewicz since he was a 3rd round pick and not the picks included in the trade for some reason)

But that trade is still an overpay for the Canucks. Monahan is maybe worth Aman + the 2nd but I’d rather target someone else. I wouldn’t give up Brzustewicz or a 3rd for Savard, let alone both. He’s not better than any of our 6 dmen and he’s overpaid for next season. He’s a cap dump to us

Yea I definitely agree with you on Savard, and for the most part on the rest.
But I don't think Mtl needs more RHD. We have Mailloux and Reinbacher in the pipeline and who knows if Justin Barron turns into a long-term defender.
