A Shake Up And A Break Up

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2024
Published: Jan. 21, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Shake up the roster.

Break up with Keefe.

As much as I don't want the Leafs giving up assets to add to this lackluster team, I also don't want them wasting one of the greatest goal scoring campaigns in modern NHL history. They have to at least do enough to make the playoffs.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Domi, Max ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Keefe doesn't know how to get the best out of a complimentary scoring threat like Domi. Under a better coach like Tocchet Domi will put up better numbers. The other day he praised Tocchet, saying he gets his players ready, which I think was an indirect shot at Keefe.
2.
TOR
  1. Tanev, Christopher ($2,250,000 retained)
CGY
  1. 2024 4th round pick (TOR)
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
This is the most I want the Leafs to give up for Tanev. He's old and a UFA. He's also the 4th best defenceman on the Flames. Also, the Leafs should only do this trade on the condition that Tanev agrees to an extension in the offseason.
3.
TOR
  1. Fast, Jesper
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
CAR
  1. Bertuzzi, Tyler ($2,750,000 retained)
4.
TOR
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,900,000 retained)
ANA
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)

Canucks don't need Domi.

Larry Lowball offer won't get a retained Tanev.

Canes don't need Bertuzzi.

That offer won't get Rico Suave.

But I agree Keefe should be fired.

No but if allvin is going for cheap deadline this is the type of deal they'd consider eventhough a 2nd is too much imo value is probably a 3rd. Domi on either Miller-Boeser wing might look good not sure if a him-Petey-Kuzy line would look.

worst part about these leafs gms is they will tell you so many reasons why they hate tanev and then throw him as their RD1 with retention, like get real bro...

Leafs lack talent and depth on the back end. Tanev will immediately be their best RD. But that doesn't mean he's qualified to play there at this point in his career. He's an upgrade on Brodie, but that's not saying a lot.

Pay another team to double retain on Bert and don’t take a roster player back and we might consider

Maybe Domi to Vancouver could work.
I think Rick Tocchet might want him.

I don't mind Domi and Bert being dealt, add Brodie for a bag of pucks. Adding to this team is just a waste of assets, they are going nowhere in the playoffs if they even get there.

Don't forget: OP claims in the description that he doesn't want to pay more because Tanev is an old UFA, but only trade on the condition that there's an extension. So, not a UFA then and not old enough that he doesn't want him for multiple years.

Domi isnt helping the nucks, and Tanev will command more than that. Its all moot for the Leafs this year if they dont do something about their goaltending.

I wouldn't deal assets for Bert... he's a excess asset and doesn't solve the elephant in the room
