If you think anyone is taking Campbell's contract without two 1sts attached you're in serious denial.

Another diluted Campbell and his bad contract for nothing.

No they don’t. Ceci doesn’t really have value to us. Attaching our 2nd to getting a late 1st makes no sense at all. The Oilers potentially dropping 10 or so spots in the draft. And we send Tanev to our bitter rival. No value in this trade.

His buyout this summer is not even that bad. So I doubt it’ll cost as much as people think. I would be comfortable with a first and a prospect like Broberg who probably needs a change on scenery. With the cap going up finally that buyout number won’t be constricting. And I’m a Flames fan so helping the Oilers is not my thing.

If you think the Oilers are spending 2 1sts to dump him when they could just buy him out then you’re living in fantasy land.

Yeah I missed the 2nd going the other way. That's a definite no. In fact I think I even edited my comment to reflect that but forgot to hit save. It's a little funky how this site handles edits. Sometimes I hit edit again (which does nothing really) instead of save.

That is not correct. His buyout this summer only comes with a savings of $4.5M and still costs a total of $9M and would be spread out over double the term. Maybe if he were at least a serviceable backup, EDM could get away with one 1st round pick to dump him, but he can't even hold his own in the AHL. If EDM wants to dump him, two 1sts is the bare minimum.

It’s like literally what Holland and Oilers insiders have been hinting for months.

His whole cap hit per season is 5M for 3 seasons after this one. His cap hit next year would be 1.1 which saves them 3.9 next year. The cap hit never goes over 2.5 for the next 6 seasons. Plus the cap jumps substantially next year and likely each year from now on. That is actually a pretty reasonable buy out number to eat rather than trading a bunch of draft picks which is the lifeblood of teams with star players signed to big contracts. If you look at the buy out cap hits around the league this one is actually manageable. A lot of teams are icing competitive rosters with millions in dead cap. Look ant Minnesota with almost 15M in dead cap. Buying out Campbell is the most logical thing to do with him and it wouldn’t hurt the Oilers as much as trading a bunch of draft picks would.

Look at the actual buyout cost, my dude. Cap hit and salary are two different things. I don't care about the initial cap hit, but I also wouldn't want that cap hit extending for 6 years, a course of time in which we will need to be giving contracts to players and that cap hit could get us in trouble. Even with the $1M retained it is going to cost you MUCH more than what this ACGM proposes.

Yeah just wait. You’ll see. And it’s not going to cost me anything. I’m not even an Oiler fan.

lol. no. You will see, or EDM will just buy him out this summer. No one is gonna take that contract for such little value. And that was a royal "you", I obviously didn't mean you specifically, Dave.

I’m saying he will be bought out. Not traded with 2 first round picks. I started by saying his buy out isn’t bad and he will almost assuredly get bought out this summer. Now even you’re saying he’ll get bought out. So I guess you agree that a buy out is the best solution?

Oh. Well, yeah, probably. But if they want to dump his contract, that is what it will cost.
