TDL hopes

Created by: ColonelX
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2024
Published: Jan. 29, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Last retention slot could be used with either of Allen or Monahan if needed.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2025 4th round pick (TBL)
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Tampa value secondary/depth players with a role on good contracts much higher than any draft picks, understandable considering they're pushing for the cup every year.
Sending Kovacevic away isn't ideal but there needs to be moves on the back end to clear some spots and I highly doubt contracts like Savard or Matheson can be traded right now because of cap and lenght. Selling while he's paid dirt cheap and playing good should be the way to go.
TBL
  1. Kovacevic, Johnathan
Additional Details:
Tampa loves cap security when acquiring players and time showed they aren't afraid of paying heftier prices for it. Kovacevic is locked it for another year at under at league minimum and would be defense depth or even slide in Cernak's spot should he go down again.
2.
MTL
  1. Marody, Cooper
  2. 2024 5th round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Allen isn't washed and is the prime example of an amazing teacher for a young guy but his contract hamper his value. Marody will provide depth at forward for Laval's playoff push and also evens out the contracts for both teams.
PHI
  1. Allen, Jake
Additional Details:
Allen or not, Philly should go get a veteran goalie when possible to share the load and help Ersson's development as a big brother. Petersen and his sub .900 statline in the AHL isn't a mid-long term solution and Sandy's stats accross the board are on the decline compared to past years while being a 27yo free agent...
Philly's about to have Hart's contract terminated or LTIRed by the league while proceeding are ongoing in London so cap isn't gonna be an issue. Allen's extra year is good to build stability through next year without breaking the bank in free agency or even in trading assets (Briere doesn't want to sell future for today but owner might still want to be playoff bound if the possibility is there).
3.
MTL
  1. McConnell-Barker, Bryce
  2. 2025 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Going the easy route here, speculations and certainly a need for a center in NY.

1st round pick conditions;
- MTL receives NYR 2025 1st round pick if Monahan plays at least 50% of playoffs games. If not met NYR sends their 2024 2nd round pick.
- If transfered, NYR 2025 1st round pick is top 10 protected. If met, pick slides to 2026 and MTL also gets 2025 MIN 5th round pick.

It's Monahan, it needs conditions.
NYR
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
Few centers are going to be available at this TDL, from the bunch Monahan's certainly the cheapest option cap wise. Lindholm is likely going to cost a 2024 1st along with an B+/B prospect and a young-ish roster player or other picks to acquire and even with a 50% retention will come in almost half a million more than Sean.
Once Elias is off the table there's likely going to be a race to the next best center available considering we're in a seller market year. A future protected 1st (Likely health and/or position protected) and a prospect should close the deal. I'd give the option of sending either of these three; McConnell-Barker, Sykora and Berard. Bryce is the more likely considering his down final year in the OHL.

Reports are Drury and Gorton have not and will not make trades (im guessing an order from Dolan) and it is shown by the fact that Montreal almost never scouts Rangers games

Tampa doesn't need a player of Kovacevic's caliber. They already have Perbix and Raddysh. They either need a legit top 4 D-man or just roll with what they have

I understand the reasoning on Allen, but I doubt they target a goalie with any sort of term. There is too much uncertainty with Hart. I think it's likely they stick with Peterson or look to the waiver wire to help.

Friedman on a potential Monahan/NYR deal (32TP): "The whole Jeff Gorton and Rangers dynamic, let's just say they are not on each other's Christmas card list, let's just go with it, so that complicates the deal there, but that is the kind of player they're going to be looking for"

"A person who talks to the Canadiens regularly said Montreal’s front office has believed for a while now that there’s no chance Drury even reaches out to Canadiens GM Kent Hughes. Perhaps that changes, but indications are both sides are looking elsewhere." - Arthur Staple from the Athletic

And NYR sources have already claimed bad blood between Drury and Gorton, so Drury won’t even bother

Too much uncertainty? Hart is done just like Formenton, Foote, McLeod and Dube, even if the get off their hockey careers are most likely done.

I would agree, but they are innocent until proven guilty. They couldn't even void his contract or move it to the non roster list without charges being filed. So they can't make a trade like this rn. Regardless they won't go after a player like Allen with term and there is a real likelihood they don't trade for any goalies.

flyers won't be moving for a goalie, briere has said that ersson is the #1 here on out and that peterson/sandstrom can serve nhl minutes regardless of how well they've played in the ahl

I know they are innocent until proven guilty but the court of public opinion will overrule the courts anyhow since just because the courts find someone not guilty doesn't mean they are innocent. See Todd Bertuzzi and OJ Simpson for prime examples both were found not guilty of criminal offenses but Bertuzzi settled his civil suit and OJ was found guilty of civil offenses for the same crime. For this reason, even if they are found not guilty, their careers are likely done. The court of public opinion reins strong in the NHL.
