who are you referring to?

These Habs fans who can't differentiate between someone saying what you think someone is worth and what you think they could get for said player.

It's quite literally not a subjective opinion once the trade is made. Opinion is what you think will happen, when that opinion gets factually proven wrong, then you're just wrong and it's okay to be wrong sometimes

ohhhh were back to the literally guy!

it is. i guess we have to go through a vocabulary lesson today.

Did he get a first round pick? yes
was he worth a first round pick? unsure. Monahan could wind up winning the conn smythe en route to a cup and absolutely be worth a first round pick.

He might not fit, and be a healthy scratch. absolutely not worth it.

If you google "define: worth," you might get some info that helps you in this discussion. literally

sheesh.

Congrats, on getting what you received from the Jets.

Hopefully, Monahan brings what we are hopeful for a "productive 2C" going forward. The cost that was paid was a hefty one, probably driven upward by the price paid in the Lindholm deal the other day. I still have concerns about his injury history over the last couple years. As a final comment, still believe that a current year mid second round pick (45 - 52) would have been a fair return for this trade.

Many of the Mtl supporters called it as it played out. Congrats!!!!

Yeah, I think most fans on both sides knew how this was going to play out. It’s unfortunate the extremes on both sides masked the reality,
Habs fans thinking a 1st and a top prospect with Jets fans a 3rd. Realistically speaking, an inconsequential late 1st has always been the going rate at the deadline, always has been.
Hope it works out for both teams.

If you buy a $100 worth of groceries then that's their value, you stating he isn't worth a 1st and then having a team literally pay a 1st for him proves his value. Not that hard of a concept, things are worth what people pay for them, hence what their value is.

Habs got robbed, Monahan was definitely worth an unprotected 1st and a conditional 2nd

No matter if he really is worth or not, fact is that everyone that did Monahan vs 1st proposals where right, and everyone complaining about it were wrong.
It is always the same, players are overpaid at TDL, and much capfriendly users don't understand that.

I think (and maybe it was just my experience), but the logic on why they were going to get a 1st wasn't really why they got a 1st. A lot of it was based on how he was on a 60 point pace and how he would be a powerplay threat for teams like Colorado, even though his 5v5 stats aren't superb or would be on COL's top powerplay. I also saw some trades were it was Turcotte + 2nd or Monahan + for Byram
