Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2024
Published: Feb. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Devils maximize returns by taking on bad 1-year contracts. Also hopefully some motivation for the post all-star break as Vrana, Grzelcyk, and Deangelo want to still have NHL contracts next year.

Slight bonus of 2 New Jersey born players in Deangelo and Hall.

Canes aren’t trading their Pesce replacement for a rental. You can have just about anyone else besides him and Nikishin.

Can't think of any reason for the Blues to do that. Also, there's a very skewed concept of what constitutes a "bad contract" going around this time of year.

Or…hear me out, the Blues keep their third and just let Vrana ride out the year in Springfield. The Vrana contract is not hindering the Blues from anything. No reason to pay a premium to move him

I don't understand the rationale behind the Devils being sellers, especially at this point. Now that Carter Hart is out, NJ has a great shot at catching Philly for 3rd in the division.

IMHO, the Devils should be adding and trying to push for the playoffs.

I think the Canes would have interest in Toffoli, especially if they can get him extended short term for a reasonable amount, but they aren’t going to be moving Morrow in that scenario.

I’d love morrow value wise but I question the fit and role. With Nemec Casey Hamilton Marino already in the system

I think Morrow wouldn’t be a great fit in jersey either with our 3 RD already set and Casey on the way.

I know Carolina wouldn’t want to move him but maybe Nadeau and a 2nd (I had 3rd but gotta have a rival tax imo)

Bruins would rather some sort of pick coming back for Gryz. It would maximize the cap relief

We should push until deadline…and if we spend on additions, add guys that will be here for more than two months.

If we are out…sell Toffoli if we don’t extend him…and keep the rest.

Jackson Blake would be the guy I would want.

    Maybe Blake + Drury

You aren’t getting a top prospect for Toffoli.

Why do the blues want Miller? I'd rather just have Kessel play. No need to waste a 3rd

Replace him with a 1st then.

    1st+2nd for toffoli

My assumption was a late 1st a few months ago still held that similar value

The thought was the 3rd was for Miller and giving the Blues 500,000 more in cap space for the Blues to make a bigger move. A 4th then?

Would pass on it if it’s a4th and we’re retaining. Keep miller in that case

Yeah Miller does nothing for the Blues. Parayko isn’t moving and I can’t see Faulk moving with that cap hit. Third pair is Kessel’s he’s played well enough to hold that spot. No reason to pay for a player we don’t need. Tucker or Perunovich both have experience on the right side if needed as well

I just don't see the Devils getting that last wildcard at this point, would rather just sell whatever for value and not rush Jack Hughes, Hamilton, Seigenthaler back from injury. Just punt on this season essentially.
