Fun 3 Team Trade

Created by: Biggie
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2024
Published: Feb. 6, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is just a fun idea, don’t take it too seriously. Although, how do you think each team faired here.

Future Top 2 Lines:
Zegras - Dach - Demidov
Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Mailloux
Fowler
Montembeault
Trades
1.
NYR
  1. Evans, Jake
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Coming additionally in this trade is Henrique at 50%. They get a solid speedy 4C replacement for Goodrow in Evans. A guy in Harris who slides into your 2nd or 3rd pairing currently with their injuries on the blue line, and is at least a 6 or 7 this year, and a potential Gustafsson replacement next year who may have played himself out of a contract with New York next year due to cost. Henrique is an upgrade on Kaapo and the third is a sweetener.
2.
MTL
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,912,500 retained)
  2. Zegras, Trevor
ANA
  1. Kakko, Kaapo
  2. Kidney, Riley
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
  4. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
*Conditional 2025 First
The pick is top 10 protected, ANA receives the higher of the two picks outside the top 10. If both picks are top 10 ANA receives the lower of the two.

ANA receives a late first this year (~25th overall), a projected mid first next year (~15th overall), a young player who I imagine they’d be interested in in Kaako, and finally a B prospect in Kidney.

Not getting Zegras without one of Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, or MTLs unprotected first, assuming it's before 8OA, as the main part of the trade.

Goodrow is M-NTC so it’s unclear which teams he has trade protection against and are the NYR a cellar dweller for Henrique?

You’re probably right. Personally I wouldn’t be willing to give any of those pieces up for Zegras, but I think this is a good return without a piece like that.

I wouldn't trade Kakko for Zegras. If Anaheim wants Kakko they need to add to Zegras a whole lot.

I would love Kaako in MTL, I just think at this point MTL needs someone who is guaranteed to be a top sixer, although I love Kaako’s ceiling. I definitely think Zegras has a lot more value that Kaako though.

Kakko's 200-foot games make him a better player. Sure he doesn't produce on a Rangers-stacked team, but like Lafrenière few more months can change that.

Newhook Dach Kakko would be insane in MTL

That would be a nuts second line assuming the three of them pan out. But I personally don’t know if Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield is a cup winning first line. Also, “pan out” is the key word with your suggested line. I think Zegras is guaranteed to be a PPG player considering he’s already put up two 60 point seasons on a terrible team. I would be much more excited with a Zegras - Dach - 2024 1st (Demidov??) first line, and that Suzuki line as the second line.

Zegras is not reliable on defensive tasks, we cannot add another offensive 1st player to our top 6, Caufield is already a big liability.

Caufield’s actually been fine defensively this year if you look at the stats. Maybe that’s due to Suzuki being unreal 2 way, but either way that second line has no defensive problems. That leaves room for a more offensive first line and Dach and Demidov are no defensive slouches.

Kakko scores at the rate of 0.4 PPG. Zegras scores at the rate of 0.73 PPG.

This is the single worst take you have ever expressed on CapFriendly.

I wonder if he thinks Montreal would have to add to Caufield to get Kakko, seeing as Caufield has a worse career PPG than Zegras, is just as bad if not worse defensively, and can’t play center

Do you get pinged whenever someone proposes a Zegras trade on this?

Lets break this down

Habs receive Zegras, Goodrow and 2.9m of Henrique's deal

Habs give up

2025 1st (top 10 protected) (Habs probably give up a t 11-15 overall pick with the conditions)
2024 1st (WPG, so around 25-32)
Harris
Evans
Kidney
2024 3rd (MTL, so around pick 70 range)

Do you want this team to be mediocre forever? You essentially added 2 1st rounders to upgrade from Kakko to Zegras which isnt the insane upgrade you think it is. The Kakko trade is fine on its own.

who tf do you think is Zegras? Hes not signing there after the reports that he felt disrespected by the Ducks for his contract negotiations. (Probably because Verbeek sees what others see and that hes not a winning type of player. All flash no substance)

That itself is a giant red flag for a player. The team that drafted him wont sign him long term and then trades for his direct replacement. If I were a gm, i wouldnt touch him. Hes high risk, medium reward.

The only piece here I actually have some fear giving up is the conditional first because there’s the chance it becomes a great player. I think the upgrade from Kaapo to Zegras is bigger than you think. Zegras I think is a sure fire future PPG player considering he’s reached 60 pts twice on a bad team. Kaapo has played on lines with great players and has only reached 40 pts. I think Kaapo could become a great player but there’s a much greater chance there whereas I think there’s a certainty with Zegras. I actually am trying to get away from mediocrity as ALL of the pieces I’m parting with (aside from the conditional pick) are very similar to Roy, Farrell, Heineman, Beck, Mesar, etc. The late first likely becomes nothing more than a middle 6 forward or 2nd or 3rd line defenseman and the rest of the roster players dont have much future with MTL.

Zegras isnt a ppg player unless hes surrounded by McDavid or Mackinnon. If he didnt do a fancy goal every 30 games, wed all be thinking hes the next Mike Ribeiro and the hype would die. Instead of wasting assets on a glorified 2nd liner, combine those assets to move up in the draft or get prospects that actually have a chance to be elite.

Habs arent needing to trade for a forward. They just need to guarantee a top 5 pick this year and a top 7 in 2025. Youll find your elite players there. Use the assets in this trade to guarantee those picks

You really think a 23-year-old putting .35 ppg, and is a defensive liability, gets a top prospect or top 10 pick?

and this is your worst answer ever. Hockey is a 200-foot game whether you like it or not the next Hoffman does not hold the big value you wish compared to a Kakko being underused in offensive tasks.
