Fair Swap or which side adds

Created by: Dev17MT
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 7, 2024
Published: Feb. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My thoughts: I feel bad for Holtz; deserves better than the 4th line. If Meier is more comfortable at RW, then Mercer and Holtz battle for the other top 6 wing spot. Toffoli has done well and we definitely needed a little more veteran presence. McTavish has played LW, good face-off percentage (can help out on Jack's line). Plus another Swiss on the Devils.

Jersey adds all day long

Centers have more value than wingers

McTavish is younger and has twice as many NHL games

I'd add a 1st+ for the younger player who can play C.

Holtz has been more productive 5v5 this year but McTavish can produce on the PP.

Both underwhelming defensively but again McTavish a year younger

Holtz+1st+2nd or more? (I'd use other assets but don't know Anaheims specific needs or valuations)

LMAO.

Try adding Nemec and multiple firsts then Verbeek might pick up the phone.

Wouldn’t move Nemec for McTavish 1 for 1

Glad you think so because McTavish is completely untouchable. Holtz is nowhere near the level McTavish is and there’s 0 reason Anaheim moves McTavish when he’s there cemented 2C at only 21 years old and is only getting better.

Hell McTavish has more points THIS YEAR than Holtz has in his career and is YOUNGER than Holtz.

There is no trade where Holtz is the primary piece in which ANA moves McTavish.

My whole take is: if Ruff isn’t playing Holtz how you want, then what makes you sure he’ll put Mctavish on the top line lol

Again, just want to preface this by saying I think McTavish is an excellent young player.

Getting PP1 time makes every point total look a lot nicer.

McTavish has 18 points at even strength this year. Holtz has 21.

McTavish also has defensive struggles just like Holtz.

Again, I want to say I completely understand where you’re coming from. McTavish is younger, imo better at this point, with higher draft pedigree, and plays a much more valuable position.

From jerseys perspective McTavish value drops because obviously he wouldn’t be a center with Jack and Nico.

I just want to say I think you’re sleeping on holtz and certainly Nemec.

Understandable. McTavish would be undervalued in Jersey bc there would he would be converted to a winger (not taking over for Jack and Nico) so any price that makes sense for jersey wouldn’t make sense for Anaheim

“From jerseys perspective McTavish value drops because obviously he wouldn’t be a center with Jack and Nico”

And that makes you think that Verbeek would sell him for less????

I don’t know where I said that verbeek would sell him for less
“I completely understand where you’re coming from…”

I can only really speak with insight from NJDs side. I don’t think McTavish to Jersey would make any sense for us bc you don’t want to pay a center price to play a guy as a winger, and obviously Anaheim wouldn’t be selling a center at a winger price.

Just curious on who ends up as the long term C between him and Zegras?

Again that would be my potential only logic for why McTavish COULD be sold, if they want to run with Z and Leo as 1C and 2C, but again in that scenario he would be sold to someone looking for a C, willing to pay the center premium price, which wouldn’t be jersey.

And even then I think if I had to predict, the odd man out would be Zegras.

Long term wise and short term wise Zegras has been transition to the wing. He’s become more versatile and can play either position similar to what Henrique has been doing.

The top six is likely
Zegras - Carlsson - Terry
Gauthier - McTavish - Killorn

Should be a damn good top 6, although I worry about how Killore will age. Holtz would certainly be a good add into that top 6 for you imo (but I’d like to keep him) and it certainly wouldn’t make sense for Anaheim to move McTavish for him.

I also have concerns about how the Fowler and Gibson contracts will age, but other than that the ducks have a very bright future. Should be a decently attractive destination once they’re competing again as well

Killorn is only under contract for two years after this season. He’ll be fine but he could go up and down the lineup.

Gibson has no signs of slowing down so he’s fine.

Fowler could be moved or bought out if he continues to regress the rate he is.
