Not enough for Buchnevich with retention and Campbell. Just not a deal that makes a lot of sense either team tbh

I thought the deal was bad and then I saw Jack Campbell was in it and I about peed myself. Edmonton just doesn't have assets to acquire Buch and it is still going to got two firsts to dump campbell. Playing like a 25 million dollar ECHL goalie.

I would think it takes something like Holloway + Akey + 1st for the Blues to trade Buch, and maybe more with retention. Definitely shouldn't be ok with taking Campbell.

Bud, you are light years away. The Blues will not be taking Campbell. For every reason.

We're not interested in taking on Campbells contract we got enough bad ones already

On a positive note, CHI accepts! haha.

I think it's possible EDM could find a suitor for a Campbell dump that would also return a couple useful and affordable depth players and/or a hot handed goalie. But, hoping for a piece like Buch is just a pipe dream, let alone adding retention. You could remove Campbell from that deal entirely and STL still probably declines.

I do think STL fans are over valuing Butch, they value him like a center when he's clearly a winger. That being said, the cost of trading Campbell would be SO much. Without Campbell, its probably a bit of an overpay, but with him its way under.

I would give him the same value as Timo Meier roughly. I don't think a quality prospect and late first is too much to ask.

Hawks take that and run away screaming "No takebacks!"

I was going to say definitely worth less than Meiers, but taking another look maybe not so far off. From how good the players are and how they should be valued you're probably right that they should be valued the same or even Buch valued more. But trades are weird and often based more on the market's perception of the player's value and I would say that he falls a step below Meiers at the times of the respective trades. Meiers was seen as a star winger part of it due to his power-forward status and I'd say Buch as seen as a 1st line winger.

I broke down his value in another post using Toffoli, which I think is probably the better comp (although does require some adjustment for the third year). But like I said after a second look, Meiers isn't an unreasonable comp other than how you value RFA status versus 1 more year of cheap contract.

Buch is every bit as good as Meier, man. Sure, Meier is bigger, but it's not like he uses his body any more than Buch does.

Well it’s also a question of how valuable is RFA status when the QO is 10m

Very valuable. The whole qualifying offer thing is such a red herring. Look at Tkachuk, which was technically a sign and trade, but there's really no difference (it's just the differnt between having a handshake deal before the trade which was done all the time in the past and firm contract). Team control to get a long-term contract for these types of players is considered valuable.

It was clear last year that teams valued that RFA control.
