Boston also has plenty of bottom 6 players who already fill the same role as Appleton, so the term left in his deal isn't of value

Arizona says no to the first one and theJets aren't moving Appleton or Schmidt before or at the TDL.

Buying teams add to their depth, not trade it away.

So Boston gives up a 2nd and a 7th to swap players. They get the less productive but more expensive guy in return.
