LD is probably the last thing on CBJ's list of needs, so even if the value is there (I don't know enough about Gulyayev to say, just gonna take your word for the sake of this), it just doesn't fit what CBJ would need to move Jenner. A late 1st and a player at the position they need least doesn't entice them to trade the guy imo.

I'm genuinely curious at why I see this alot about LD. After Mateychuk all I see is Knazko, Holm and Svozil. I know Werenski isn't going anywhere but Bean and Provorov are easily moved and not long term solutions in my opinion. Are those 3 going to be legit NHLers?

For one thing, you can only have so many good players at a position because eventually you have to pay them all, too. And therefore lose one or two because of the cap. Werenski is already the commitment. A Jenner trade could bring in almost anything, so why choose an offer that is more of what you've already got? It would be like the Rangers trading Kakko for another LW when they've got nothing but that in their pool, or Buffalo bringing in another LHD when they already have Dahlin and Power, or Anaheim and top six centers. It's gilding the lily and still being poor in another area.

With the interview Boone just did, the things Jarmo has been saying, and apparently even ownership saying how much they love him, it just doesn't seem like a Boone trade is gonna happen.

Hawks would have no interest in McDermid, but a 4th for Blackwell half retained probably gets it done.

Doesn't really answer my question. Was wondering if those other prospects are going to be NHL contributors? Yes you have to pay your good players but that doesn't guarantee Mateychuk or Gulyayev even become NHL defensemen let alone top 4 regulars. Both look really good but neither are a guarantee. Jost saying that maybe it wouldn't hurt to help bolster that part of the pipeline.

It's bad asset management to give up your biggest asset to do something that can be best described as "maybe it wouldn't hurt".

We have options at LHD. We do not at RHD, we're unsure at G, and we could use a right hand winger with top 6 potential who is under 20. If I was going to hedge my bets against any of the CBJ premium prospects, it would be Brindley and Dumais. Or I'd take a U20 center with top 6 potential to get another shot at making sure the long-term 2C behind Fantilli is in the system.

At the expense of other areas is my point. Of course they're not guaranteed, and probably none of them pan out. Of that list after Mateychuk, Svozil is the only one like to even play in the NHL. But with Werenski and Mateychuk likely holding down the top two spots, LHD is not a position of need the way center or RW are. And since we're assuming a Jenner trade is a foregone conclusion here despite even national media saying it wasn't happening, why should the org pursue yet another LHD when their top prospect outside the NHL is that (Mateychuk) and their top five pick is highly likely to also be that (Silayev, based on mocks I've seen and likely draft order) to the detriment of other offers? Diversify the pool. LD is the second easiest position to acquire after LW. Don't waste your most valuable asset on that.

Ah thats fair. Value wise I do think its probably pretty close, but if LD isn't a position of need then yeah it wouldn't make sense for CBJ.
