Askarov is a very nice prospect but he has not done enough to warrant that return.

It might be an overpayment for him but you say him for Holtz one for one as if Holtz has proven himself at the NHL level lol...I understand he doesn't get a ton of playing time but you're not getting the league's best goalie prospect for an unproven scorer

Wallstedt is the best goalie prospect imo.

Holtz went higher in the draft, has shown a lot more at the NHL level. Goalies are unpredictable.

Also did I mention Nashville’s head coach loves Alex Holtz, was his biggest supporter in Jersey.

Fair enough on Wallstedt. I feel like the draft is an inaccurate comparison because goalies are so weird. I do think Holtz will be a solid second line goal scorer but my point is that Nashville will ask for quite more.

NHL front offices generally show how they value goalie prospects. Which is way lower than that of position players. Which is why they get drafted so low.

I don’t think what Askarov has done at the AHL level has been enough to boost his stock to being significantly more than Holtz (who also dominated the AHL, but back 2 years ago when he was 19)

Specifically since they have Saros and their coach specifically really likes holtz.

Maybe a secondary pieces could be added but I just can’t see the logic behind a large value gap.

Either way, NJ needs a goalie who will help them now. It has definitely been an underwhelming season, but you are still in win-now mode. You need a game-changer, not a prospect, so I do agree that it makes no sense for them.

I disagree on that front. I like an Askarov or a Knight acquisition more than I like the ridiculous prices being thrown around on whatever goalie is having a hot run lately.

Give me a 4th line, physical forward who can kill penalties and play strong defensively sound hockey (Yakov Trenin), and a defensively sound, puck moving dman who can also kill penalties (Marcus Pettersson or Noah Hanifin) before we spend big on a goalie.

We’ll revisit goalies in the offseason

Simply makes no sense. You're taking a risk on a goalie who has never played in the NHL, and relying him to be your goalie of the future when goaltending was your problem this year. It's an urgent need, you need to realize that.

Goalies are Volatile and the demands from teams for a NHL ready goalie right now appear to be utterly ridiculous. Would rather go to a market where assets are priced fairly and fill other needs.

besides the goaltending has improved significantly from what it was at at the beginning of the year. No trade we make will go back in time and change the past

I’m thinking more than just 1 year as well. Askarov and knight would presumably, if they work out, be the goalie for the next decade or so

That is a lot to pay for any goalie
That is a lot to pay for a prospect in AHL

Zero chance Fitzy touches that

Yeah I'd agree...not really sure what "favor" NJD would be doing for the Caps

Would rather the 3rd for Edmundson and 3rd for patches that should be the return

Askarov won't be moving for anything less than a prospect with the potential to be a top line center. It's the only reason he was in rumors around the draft last year. Like it was said earlier goaltending is unpredictable so Nashville would rather see how he pans out then trade him now when his value could only go up. He was called the best goaltending prospect since Carey Price and his growth was stunted by his mismanagement in Russia. Since coming over to North America he's shown why he was valued so high and is a game changing goaltender. At this point I'd say Askarov is off the table. Not to mention Parssinen, who is only 23, plays center, which is Nashville's biggest need, and has already shown he can play at that level.

Not that I expect them to get a lot for either guy but especially splitting them up and retaining I would expect 3rds or 4ths for both Pacioretty and Edmundson
